One of the situations that demanded critical thinking from me and how my choices or decision integrated intelligence and character.
In life, I think education should not only be earned but in most times should be applied in essential avenues of life. I have always been looking to use the learning I received in college into more practical situations and in real life. My personal experience has usually been much complicated, and this gave me a quit good ecosystem to have a chance to read a lot of different business practice, latest innovations, best practices and case studies to learn about the practical applications of various business administration techniques that I had come in contact with during my era of studies.
As required by the academic curriculum, I had just summed up my summer internship in one of the most renowned companies in Texas that were majorly dealing with the restaurant business. The company had been running a series of restaurants within the city, but when the end of the day balanced the books, it had much less than it was expected. This proceeded for three months consecutively. The customers flow kept on reducing day by day, making the profitability to decrease as well. There was a much stiff competition since there were many other restaurants in the vicinity which were also impacting the overall sales. As a marketing intern, I was tasked to identify the core reason and to suggest the best solution ever. Since at college, I have studied supply chain management and marketing management-related subjects applying these concepts in such a situation was never hard. I critically analyzed the overall business of the restaurant. I made appointments with the managers, chefs and staff members as well, but I was never lucky to come up with something tangible. During my studies, I had learned that customer’s relations and satisfaction were one of the most critical parts for any business to grow.
After a long struggle, I decided to change tactics and decided to conduct a small survey among the people who worked around and some of those who were living around. To my surprise, during the survey I found out that most of the people around did not know about the existence of this restaurant and majorly preferred the famous restaurants in the city. It showed that the restaurant was losing its position due to its weak marketing strategies in the city. I suggested to the manager to carry out a few marketing campaigns across the city. The restaurant saw this a much expensive measure but was much necessary to bring back profitability. I actively took charge of assisting out by designing the overall campaign. We carried out these campaigns at public mails and gatherings within the city. This campaign majorly involved sharing of food recipe by the chefs and distributing discount coupons among the customers. I also suggested that the restaurant should hold a competition “The Hidden Chef” every month where 20 participants would be selected to cook some major chosen dishes and the top ones awarded.
It was quite a challenging situation but allowed me to learn a lot. I came to realize that customer satisfaction is one of the significant principal motives for any business, and a successful business person should never ignore. For the company to be more successful, I also realized that one needs to check each aspect of the marketing and sales to ensure seamless integration of all business activities and to and access long profitability.
