Cross-cultural issues to keep in mind when developing a communication system
Cross-cultural issues are things that are done in multiple cultures. When developing a communication system, for example, in an organization, it is crucial to keep in mind how the system will affect people within the organization. When developing a communication system, some of the cross-cultural issues one should keep in mind include:
Linguistic diversity. Different cultures have different communication styles, the grammar, vocabulary, and body expressions used in communications will differ from one culture to the other. So when one is developing a communication system, he or she should keep in mind that different cultures have different linguistic to establish a communication system that will favor all individuals. Before developing a communication system, one should study different language styles from multiple cultures to come up with an accommodative system.
Education is also vital in communication. Different cultures have different forms of knowledge; hence they may have a different interpretation of different things. When one is developing a communications system, he or she should consider the education system of multiple cultures. For example, in some cultures, listening is not treated as crucial in communication, while other cultures believe in excellent listening before arriving at a judgment. In a company, formal communications require more attentiveness as compared to informal communication. This is evident that one should keep in mind the education provided in different cultures before developing a communication system
The class of a group should be in mind. A diverse group of people has a different culture associated with them. For example, in an organization, the executive employee’s communications between themselves and their juniors, may it be oral or written, differs from entry-level employees’ communication to executive employees or their fellow entry-level employees. Hence when developing a communication system, one should keep in mind the cultural differences of a different class of people.
