Case Study 2 – MUST complete ALL tasks
Imagine you are an investigator within the investigation unit, using the case below you must do the following:-
Part 1 Task – Requires answers to each question (be meticulous and clear with task, answers etc)

- If you were interviewing a Manager in relation to the above case, and you discovered that they had not reported a matter that is reportable under the organisation’s guidelines what steps would you take?
Part 2 Task – Plan and initiate an investigation
Using process mapping spreadsheet or database linking methodologies
You will need to provide responses to;
- Undertake a. research on the caseand b. problem solving on the case.
- Detail – Must briefly detail
- 1who you(as an investigator) would question and negotiate with?
- 2what power(as an investigator) you have to approach people?
- 3how you(as an investigator) determined they were relevant to the investigation?
- 4what profiling processestook place?
Part 3 Task – You will need to provide an investigation plan: (be meticulous and clear with task, format and answers etc)
[*Recording an investigation plan should be used in ‘Annexure 1’ document format, as outlined on the last page no.3 below. Use it.]
- Record an investigation plan including:-
- Timeframes for conducting the investigation
- Objectives for the investigation
- Resources that will or may be required (associated with this case)
- Risks that may be associated with the investigation (associated with this case)
- Methodology that will be used to achieve objectives
- Approvals that may be required to commence the investigation
2.. A short- written report on the information you have in the initial planning stages including a. reference to the size of the investigation and b. the nature of the offence
Part 4 Task – Using the Case Study from Part 1 above, you must now ‘conduct the investigation’ (be meticulous and clear with task, format and answers etc)
Keep in mind this is hypothetical, you should be able to locate names of those that were involved in the actual investigation/case, and utilise the information researched online to complete the below.
Prepare a written report detailing:-
- What problem-solving skillsyou utilised and how you applied them
- Whoyou have liaised with, what matters were discussed and how you dealt with people from diverse backgrounds
- Analyse, compare and judge the facts from written materials that you have accessed during the course of your investigation
- Detail how the evidencewas collected, labelled, recorded and preserved and whether this evidence will be able to counter any possible defences
- Detail how, in accordance with exhibit management principles, continuity of evidence was applied and detail the legislation complied with(where applicable)
- How the investigation plan and the process mapping spreadsheet or database was utilised and kept updated
You will need to provide:
- Written report (as above), with APA Style Bibliography or Reference List (eg: case law)
- Update a) reference to what evidence was located during your investigation and b) where gaps and inadequacies were identified
- Updated investigation plan (with re-adjusted timeframes if that is appropriate)
Reminder to provide APA Style Referencing for each answer that reference(s) were used
