Use of Leadership Skills by Netflix to Improve Overseas Market
To ensure, significant increment in the company’s productivity, any organization needs to adopt various leadership skills and ensure that the leadership policies adopted are concrete and are accurately implemented in various departmental levels. This scenario is no different in the Netflix world. The company is targeting the increment of not only local viewers but international customers as well. To make overseas market receptive and eager to try out the new products that Netflix introduces as well as remain faithful users of the existing products. This can be done on a step by step basis. For this to be successful, the leadership team needs to incorporate various unique leadership skills and ensure their implementation. Some of the leadership skills which can be used include the introduction of the culture if leadership and management philosophies in significant decision making involving the creation of teams as well as resource allocation among other vital sectors.
One of the significant ways in which Netflix may implement leadership skills is the use of the leadership culture to change the organizational culture of the organization when the need arises. Since Netflix is aiming at expansion of the overseas market, there is a need, therefore, to adopt policies and work ethic to ensure that all the needs of the employees in the organization all over the world are considered. The organizational culture, which is composed of the behaviors, policies, ideals, goals, values as well as aspirations, and underlying assumptions set by leadership, can be majorly defined by the administration. Therefore, using the leadership skills relating to open communication and honesty will help in the creation of a much open-minded and diversity-minded culture in the organization. Thereby, the company needs to use its leadership skills to come up with a strong executive team that will be able to oversee various operations in the local as well as the international level in an appropriate manner. Through the creation of a capable executive team, strategy setting, managing customer another stakeholder relation as well as identification of significant innovations ton improve the organization’s performance will all be implemented and which will lead to an increment of productivity in the international level. When leaders adopt the use of these leadership skills, they will be able to take various steps to build and upgrade their team. Netflix will be therefore able to troll of talents both inside and outside the organization and find qualified individuals to add to the various team’s existent. As a result, multiple teams in marketing, content production, customer care, etc. will be very well qualified and equipped. They will, therefore, perform effectively, leading to gradual improvement of performance in the international as well as the local level (BEESON, 2011).
One of the main determinants to achieve a competitive advantage by any global-operating company is the ability of the company to handle and manage diversity and make business strategies accordingly. Netflix is a global company, and to handle competition, the leadership will play a huge role in implementing effective policies pertaining to this. A significant leadership skill relating to the capability of the leaders to deal with various complexities arising as a result of diversity will be very invaluable. In an attempt to enhance organizational competitiveness, the global leaders need to understand and respect disparities, make necessary leadership adjustments where needed concerning the emerging diversity issues. The leaders, therefore, need to understand the various cultural stereotypes existing in various parts of the world to avoid stereotyping and personal bias of the various individuals.
This will help the leaders to be more open-minded and develop Netflix products and services which are mindful of the people’s culture and customs. Additionally, the Netflix leaders will aid in the creation of a thriving overseas Netflix market through practicing self-assurance. The leaders, therefore, need to cultivate self-assurance and assist the employees in doing the same, and this can be achieved through the learning of the competitor’s plans. Understanding the existing competitors in terms of their culture, strategies, performance, etc. will help Netflix increase competitiveness and organizational outcomes both at the local and the international level. The development of a global-mindset by the leaders will also go a long way in increasing international productivity. This will involve the leaders cultivating a cultural intelligence and global business orientation. The leaders will have to be open-minded, think globally as well as provide swift measures to maintain their competitiveness in the multicultural organizations as well as the global markets (Chuang, 2013).
