Personal statement for admission (dentistry)
Everything was doing fine back until the tables turned upside down. The development of the Syrian war made life unbearable in my home country, and my father had to take us away to safety. Due to this reason, we immigrated to the United States to look for a better life six years ago. This process made me go through great depression as I tried to cope with the new life in the united states and to find a purpose in my life. One day when I was visiting a community clinic for a dental check-up program for immigrants was amazed by the way the dentist used technology to examine various patients and provide extra care to the patients having different dental problems. As my turn came to be checked, I was much impressed by the specialist who was checking on me. The fact that he was using his hands to heal and his words to educate patients had a significant impact on society, and this motivated me. Through him, I was able to learn preventive dentistry, and this made me develop an interest in dentistry. My personal experience and the different aspects of dentistry made me highly motivated to pursue dentistry.
During high school, I wanted to pursue something that would enable me to adjust to life in the united states. I wanted to be someone important in society, someone who would lead a happy life and with the activities he undertook. Dentistry was the only scapegoat I had as I had to follow my passion in the profession. I watched different videos on dentistry and reading various books on dentistry. During my leisure time, I played soccer as I was an active member of the varsity soccer team. I loved soccer due to the strong relationship I discovered about the game and dentistry. This aspect is based on the fact that both individuals work in teams to make the necessary plans to achieve a specific goal. In this case, I was able to learn different aspects of the game, which apply significantly in the field of dentistry. This situation was one of my most significant tests as I had to choose a career that I would undertake for the rest of my life. After I made my selection to become a dentist, I channelled all my efforts and capability to ensure that I can give the best to the society.
After graduating from high school, I undertook considerable research on the best career to pursue. In the process, I managed to volunteer in a community clinic where I was assigned to work with Dr Ben, who was in his final year. Dr Ben much motivated me to become a dentist as he taught me different aspects of the profession. One day I saw him having I misunderstanding with a middle eastern woman who did not express herself in English. Through this incidence, I was able to understand the various challenges that dentists go through, especially in places where they interact with patients from different cultural backgrounds. Due to this reason, I was very convinced that dentistry was the path that I needed to follow.
Through dentistry, I will be able to help people from diverse cultures to gain access to various medical services. Since I understand the nature of Middle Eastern women and their lack of trust, I will be able to assist them since I know their culture. In this case, the profession will be of great importance to me as I will be able to support the people maintain good dental care.
