Essential Functions and Scope of Job:  Clinical Counselors within a business or an organization are responsible for providing standardized counseling/therapy for patients with mild to moderate health conditions and substance abuse referred by physicians. Counselors work to address other social needs of patients and utilize area referral sources for needed specialty care, hospitalization, or advance psychiatric assessments and treatments. Furthermore, Clinical Counselors minimize doctor’s time by relaying information and clearing doubts of patients, explain more about the intensity of their prevailing conditions, and encourage patients to complete their sessions and come for follow-up. Moreover, they provide awareness to patients by providing necessary information through video or documents. Lastly, they consult with doctors and other health care providers to supplement the patient’s understanding, provide decision support for medication, and assist in the monitoring treatment plans.

Work performed: Clinical Counselors receive referrals from Physicians and then proceed to assess the mental and behavioral health status of referred patients. After ascertaining the condition of the patient, they provide counseling/talk therapy scheduled patients utilizing professional counseling standards. They formulate a differential diagnosis of mild to moderate mental health conditions and substance abuse and long term or short term counseling plans for patients under care. They identify patients with urgent mental health conditions (e.g., suicidal, homicidal, psychotic, etc.) and make appropriate referrals to available emergency or psychiatric treatment facilities. Moreover, they provide written group and family therapy sessions. They provide written documents of counseling sessions, assessments, interventions, and recommendations to Health care providers. Clinical Counselors also participate in a team management approach to patient care/treatment. They maintain an understanding of how behavioral health priorities are administered and consult with specialists to review the care of patients receiving medical services.

Furthermore, they maintain appropriate documentation of clinical and counseling services, including all necessary billing information. They should be in constant knowledge and proficiency through continuing education, staff meetings, workshops, and serving on special committees. They should also provide deliberation and coordinate care of patients with other health care providers and be immediately available to health care institutions in the event of emergencies.

Position Qualifications:

  10. Set up and maintain social and mutual work relationships to assist medical providers in achieving the established strategic health plan’s goals and targets.
  11. Stick to Clinical practice recommendations, including following the mission, vision, and principles, to gain productive feedback, including assessing one’s productivity and attributes.
  12. Be flexible to adjust priorities and also maintain discretion and confidentiality of information.
  13. Be readily available and easily accessible to accept new assignments as provided.

Minimum Qualifications

  1. Ability to execute each position and task assigned to them successfully.
  2. Must be computer literate with the skills to compile reports and data as requested.
  3. Capacity to understand that safety and well-being is a condition of employment. Unsafe environment and conditions will be reported to the superiors or members of the management.
  4. Must be knowledgeable in written and spoken English.

 

License and Certification:

  • A licensed professional Clinical Counselor – At least one year of experience in mental health counseling preferred
  • Current practicing certificate

Special Requirements:

  • Must be willing to travel between health centers
  • Must be willing to work evening hours and weekends if necessary

Education and Experience Required: Minimum academic, commercial, and technical qualifications needed for performing duties.
