Introduction
Attention: What makes me the person I am? How would someone ever describe me?
Thesis: Today, I will discuss how owls, my camera, and my bag (book sack) represent my self- concept.
Preview: If I don’t have an owl somewhere then something must be wrong. The bird is my spirit animal. Technology, who would have guessed it? A digital camera captures the very essence of life. I always wear a book sack because I consider my roles played as jobs.
ATSR: We all have differing self-concepts, but one thing is for sure, many of us can define ourselves through the knowledge, memories and materials that surround us.
(Transition: Let’s take a look at my first story. )
Body
- Owls – I have a charm that I was supposed to turn into a bracelet. It consists of three owls sitting on a branch which describes me as a wife and mother. Owls represent intelligence, wisdom, protection, and mystery to name a few which I feel truly describes me because I thirst for knowledge and I tend to be very wise for my age.
(Transition: Now that I discussed my longing for knowledge, let’s talk about my love of memories…)
- Camera – My camera captures memories that sometimes cannot be replayed. I use my camera to connect with the world and the people around me. I take my camera and my phones everywhere so that I can capture priceless moments especially since I had my son. My camera allows me to collect these memories and use them for art whether I put pictures on a shirt or place them in a scrapbook.
(Transition: My final story is concerns the valuables we possess…)
- Bag (book sack) – I rarely carry a purse I just don’t feel comfortable wearing one. My book sack represents what is valuable to me. In my bag, there could be anything from facial tissue to lip gloss on a normal day and from books to a lap top. I feel that there is comfort in placing either both straps or single strap on my back. Instead of a diaper bag I carry a book sack with everything my son needs in it. What I carry with me I consider my tools of the trade for being a student, an employee and a mother. I carry my tools for the different roles I play in life. I am always equipped to handle any challenge life presents.
(Transition: Let’s remember what was discussed today…)
Conclusion
Summary statement: I remember when I was younger owls seemed weird. Now I see the beauty in them and feel a true connection to them especially since they remind me of the knowledge I long for in my everyday life. My camera is my get away tool. It allows me to capture the best memories especially of my son. I can’t go anywhere without a bag. My bag represents my tools of the trade for every role that I play in life.
Closing remarks- We all have differing self-concepts, but one thing is for sure, many of us can define ourselves through the knowledge, memories and materials that surround us. I hope you have a better understanding of who I am and maybe even find commonalities with me. Thank you.
