Discussion Post: The Plain Language Movement
This is a busy world where specialized communication and translations play a vital role. Most people acknowledge legal translation as a complicated and time-consuming event that requires transfer from one language to another. This is also applied from one legal structure to another, making these concepts hard to transfer, and finding translators is also equally hard. The plain language movement has been trying to change the way communication is often done, especially when it comes to the government. The movement advocates for a communication that is clear and concise with simple words that any citizen can be able to comprehend. The movement has been dedicated to ensuring that citizens deserve a clear communication from the government.
Clear communication from the government can save the nation time and resources. At the end of the day, what people want is the dissemination of information. Whether in business, legal agencies, or the government, the idea of a plain language with clear word statements feels right and acceptable. In relation to our course, I believe that we can borrow and learn a lot from the plain language movement. We have always learned the importance of effective communication between parties, and I feel that the government owe it to its citizens an understandable communication; a communication they will understand without the help of a third party. People who cannot understand this complicated worded information can always visit the plain language service to help simplifier the information.
