Intranet Security
Authorized persons can only access the intranet, and it is used for internal communications in a company. The intranet is prone to vulnerabilities meaning that there can occur weak spots in the network which can be exploited by a security threat. Intranet security entails ensuring that the system is free from viruses and hacking, and also within the company, it is crucial to ensure that only the right staff has access to the correct information.
Vulnerability scanners help with automated security auditing, and therefore they are a crucial part of securing the network. The scanners scan the web for several risks and provide a prioritized list of how they can be patched. The open vulnerability assessment system is a free network security scanner that works very well on Linux, and it is feature-rich. Other available scanners are the Retina CS Community, Microsoft Baseline Security Analyser, Nexpose Community Edition, Qualys FreeScan, and the Secure Cheq. The scanners help network security because they describe the identified vulnerabilities and give step by step directions on how they can be remediated. In other cases, the scanners automate the patching process (Stute & Paly, 2018).
Results from the scans identify areas that make the intranet vulnerable to security attacks, and the scanners offer a variety of solutions to mitigate the threats. Some solutions include; setting up firewalls to provide security to online threats and recommendations for setting up antiviruses in cases of external threats to the intranet (Stute & Paly, 2018). The scans also identify some internal security threats such as weak passwords, encryption, and remote control, and measures to mitigate these risks are suggested and implemented. Therefore, the scanners are essential to ensuring that a company’s intranet is secure.
