Process Map of Electronic Health Information Exchange
Description of the process map
This process map is primarily about the electronic health information exchange between different medical facilities and various medical service providers. This problem-solving technique will be of so much importance to the health care system since it will enable efficient sharing of information between different doctors so that they can effectively treat their patients without doing any repeat tests, which tend to waste time and resources.
According to the process, the patient will visit the hospital or their medical doctors in case of any difficulties or even for regular checkups. This means that the patient’s health information will be accessed by the doctor only when they visit the doctor for the purposes of being treated. Therefore, the patient’s medical information will not be shared, meaning the patient’s privacy concerning the medical conditions is well protected.
This process involves a particular database system where all the patient’s information and history diagnosis will be kept for comfortable treatment of the patient. The patient will have full access to the medical information, and the doctor will access it if the permission is granted to them by the patient. Therefore, the patient will have the login details of the account of the database. If the patient is new, meaning they have not registered on any health information database system, they will be allowed to create an account and approve their medical information to be entered into the system.
When the patient is not new to the system, they will enter the login details to the health information system. The doctor will then look at the extreme medical conditions that have been diagnosed by other doctors so that the doctor can make a proper decision concerning the treatment of the patient. The doctor diagnosing the patient will also be required to fill in the patient’s current diagnosis for the purposes of the future doctors or even the same doctor when diagnosing the same patient. After each diagnosis, the doctors who diagnosed a patient will be required to enter the contact information so that they can easily be traced in case of any problems with the patient in the future (Blessing, 2017). As we can see, the process map ends with the treatment of the patient. Therefore, the patient will be treated based on the information in the health information database system and also the database information that has been diagnosed by the current doctor. Therefore, each doctor is required to fill in the correct information without leaving any details (Dixon, 2016). This will be of great importance, even in the future. As we can see, this method is very secure and efficient. The information cannot be lost since it is an online database that can be accessed anywhere. The privacy of the patient is also strictly observed here. Therefore, when this method is put into consideration, it will be of so much help.
