Reflection of Real-Life Scenario
After reviewing the postpartum hemorrhage real-life scenario, I gained more skills and knowledge concerning the care for patients with the condition. In the process of giving care to the client, I experienced an ethical dilemma involving informed consent from her. The reason that led to the decision was an operation where the client had to consent before it could proceed. I managed to act with respect to the expected code of ethics by informing the client about the need for her to sign and educating her about the procedure that was expected to take place. The patient gave consent and the procedure was done.
The moments that amazed me during the scenario involved the interprofessional care and collaboration that the healthcare professionals engaged in throughout the client’s stay at the hospital. I was fascinated by how the healthcare team worked in unison to give the best care to the client, starting from the client’s provider to the team of Registered Nurses. The fact that the client’s family (husband) was involved in the care of the client was also remarkable since it increased the chances of the client engaging in self-care, hence reducing frequent hospital visits.
Providing care to the client was challenging in most aspects and I felt like I was not prepared to make some vital clinical decisions concerning the care of the client. Reducing the degree of bleeding for the client was quite challenging and I had to request my other team members since the client continued to display poor health outcomes. I did not have adequate experience concerning the care of patients with postpartum hemorrhage, including giving palpitations of the fundus of the uterus. However, one of my team members was well versed with the procedure and she constantly offered to help and give instructions on the best practices to engage in for improved patient outcomes.
