Teenage girls should be on birth control

Although the prevalence of global teenage pregnancies has been declining steadily, the current statistics on teenage pregnancy is wanting. 82% of the worldwide adolescent pregnancies and births in many cases are neither unwanted nor unplanned.  In such a case, there is a need to place sexually active teenagers on birth control to reduce incidences of unplanned or unwanted pregnancies which have been shown to inhibit teenager girl’s progression in their education.  The decline in pregnancy rate across the globe cannot be associated with the decrease in the teenage sexual activity which statistically has been shown to increase for the last few decades while nor abortion rate which has decreased account for low incidences of adolescent pregnancy.  Therefore this paper will discuss the importance of teenage use of birth control methods.

The use of birth control by teenage girls has been shown to prevent the incidences of unwanted and unplanned pregnancies. Research by Davtyan (166-71) eludes that, the use of birth control methodology controls ovulation cycle and prevents fertilization, thus inhibiting any form of pregnancy. This is supported by a study by Council et al. (N.P) which alludes that apart from prevention of unwanted and unplanned pregnancies, birth control allows teenage girls to access high-quality healthcare’s services, help in menstrual cramps and heavy flow.

The use of birth control empowers adolescence girls to take control of their life and reduce the rate of depression associated with teenage pregnancy. According to Iversen and Sheffield  (N.P), adolescent pregnancy inhibits their ability to make any decision that determines their future but lower them to caring for the new infants.  Therefore the use of birth control allows teenage to plan for their future and seek a better education system and training, which can benefit them later in life (Pazol et al. 46-56).

In conclusion, birth control in teenagers is a critical component of modernity and decision making. It empowers teenage girls to prevent the incidence of unwanted and unplanned pregnancies through control of feminine physiological, thus reducing depression level and allowing them to make a concrete decision about their life.
