Text and Image in Multimedia
Multimedia can be defined as it sounds, multi meaning many and media meaning videos and pictures. Multimedia, therefore, is the literal combination of many types of media. The sound, images, video, text, and animation that are found in web pages are referred to as web-based multimedia. This Multimedia usually displays the information that is requested through hyperlinks by the user. Generally, multimedia can be defined as the content that utilizes a variety of content forms, including interactive and video content, text, animations, audio as well as images. It differs from media that only uses primary computer displays such as hand-produced material, text-only, or the traditional forms of printed material (Yang, He, Lin, & Lv, 2017). Multimedia can be interacted with, recorded, and played. It can be accessed through information content processing devices; it can also be displayed and can be part of a live performance. Multimedia devices are those devices that are used in storing and experiencing multimedia content.
Texts
Texts are characters that are utilized in creating paragraphs, words, and sentences. Text offers only one source of data, although its good in providing necessary information. Text is the most effective way and most straightforward way of passing a message across. Text can become ineffective as a result of the insufficient attention that is given to the flow and presentation of the text in a multimedia application. This is because it fails to communicate the central message of the presentation (Yuan & Peng, 2018). The text could be either hypertext, which is the text that is usually displayed on an electronic device such as a computer display with hyperlinks to other text that could be immediately accessed by the reader or the case whereby text could be revealed progressively at the stretch text.
Another type of text media is hypermedia. Hypermedia can be defined as a superset of hypertext. The hypermedia documents usually comprise links to other pieces of text, as well as other media forms such as movies, sounds, and images. The standard industry-standard software for text is the apache open NLP that is used for text analysis, text mining, as well as text analytics. The tool helps in the processing of natural language text and supports the most common tasks of NLP, including tokenization, part-of-speech tagging, coreference resolution, language detection, named entity extraction, sentence segmentation, parsing as well as chunking.
An alternative industry-standard software for text is the visual text software; the software functions exactly the same as the apache open NLP. Below are some examples of visual text software.
Images
Also referred to as still image or digital image is a binary depiction of visual information such as individual video frames, drawings, logos, pictures, or even graphs. Digital images could be saved electronically in any electronic storage device. Images are used in the creation of interest as well as the provision of information. Photographs and other different types of graphical details are specifically designed for display. On a screen, an image is usually made up of pixels, the smallest parts within a screen that the computer can control. There are two ways in which a model could be represented, and these are a vector and a Bitmap (Wang, Zhang, & Ma, 2017). The file formats of a bitmap include BMP, JPEG, PNG as well as GIF, while vector images could be either EMF, SVG, and WMF.
Bitmap images usually treat every pixel or each dot within an image separately, which can be of different colors, and each color is often represented as a binary number. In cases where detail and shading are needed, bitmaps usually produce high-quality images. These images are also compressed to ensure that their size is reduced for storage. The compressions that do not alter with the quality of the model are known as lossless, while those that modify or remove some image parts are referred to as lossy compression. Vector images, on the other hand, are usually made of objects that include straight lines, shapes, or even curves. Every part of the image is generally represented mathematically, and every purpose is defined through the characteristics that it depicts, including patterns, positions as well as the width of the lines. The size of data that is used to represent a vector image is much less than that required to serve a bitmap image, and vector images can be resized to any resolution without altering the clarity of the image; however, vector images are generally not fit for photographic images.
Photography
It is the art, practice, and application of creating images that are durable through recording light or any other electromagnetic radiation, which could be either chemically through a light-sensitive material that may include photographic film or electronically through an image sensor. Some of the critical photography tools include adobe photoshop, filters, memory card wallets, tripod, camera bag, adobe lightroom, as well as the white balancing tools. The main benefit of photography is to allow people to see the world from different points of view and also to admire all the different situations and scenarios capture in an image in a frozen moment (Dunham, 2020). Photoshop is a potent industry-standard photo editing and manipulation tool used in photography. One significant and well known photoshop software is the adobe photoshop. The software is a complex and powerful piece that offers the best photo editing and photo manipulation with almost limitless abilities; however, it is difficult to learn and use. Below are images of an elephant and a flamingo being photo-edited and manipulated using adobe photoshop software.
GNU image manipulation program is a software comprising of the same features as photoshop such as editing tools, batch processing as well as image format conversion. This software is an alternative industry-standard software that could be used for photo editing and manipulation. Below are some of the images edited and manipulated using the GIMP software.
The newest developments in text and images are the improvement in screen and image resolution such that images and texts can be presented exactly as they appear in real life with the best resolutions which are not affected by photo editing and manipulation. Today’s media is able to take images and texts that are over 10 megapixels, which produces excellent image qualities.
Multimedia data types can be characterized into a various number of data types which act as the basic building blocks or elements of or multimedia environments, integrating tools or platforms. The general types of multimedia include text, graphic objects, graphics, video, audio as well as animation. Text is the most common element of multimedia since it expresses the data that the developer tries to get across to the viewers. Despite the fact that it is images or pictures that grab the attention of the viewer first, it is also a good idea to include text within an image in case the picture fails to load (Elharrar, Rossi, & Zeevi, 2017). The image, on the other hand, attracts the attention of the viewer more quickly than just plain text. Almost all multimedia applications usually have images that could be either PNGs or JPEGS. Image and text are key components in print media, and this is because advertisers, book publishers, copywriters as graphic designers have been using text and images ever since the ancient civilization. In Multimedia, images and texts are both used in digital and print media platforms.
