The California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA) is a state entity dealing with data privacy and its primary function, the regulation of all business world handling of personal information (PI) of California residents. The General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) covers the EU region and controls how organizations and companies are supposed to handle personal data.
Similarities
In both laws, there is a call for data encryption, and as such, both serve the purpose of privacy protection for businesses. In both, if a breach happens, the companies have a certain level of protection from a data breach, and therefore liability is significantly reduced. Under both regulations, in the event of a company suffering a breach, with its data encrypted, the obligations of the company are reduced to some level.
Differences
The business that must comply are different depending on the law, GDPR is only applicable o all businesses processing data of EU citizens. On the other hand, CCPA has a narrow scope with its application only on California based businesses whose revenue is at least $250 million USD selling personal information only. GDPR gives a penalty of 4% of the company’s annual global turnover for non-compliance, while fines in CCPA are charged per violation with the maximum fine capped at $7500 USD.
Disruptive Trend response
Daniel Flores, I agree with you on the subject of the existence of online for a long time. The difference is, however, the population that uses the platform to learn. Daniel, while it is true the consumers of this education have been those seeking higher education, the trend is slowly changing with a majority of undergraduate courses that do not have practicals now consuming it. I, however, doubt the issue raised on the quality of online education. I feel the quality has been taken care of since there is frequent feedback between tutors and students and plenty of assignments. In the wake of Covid-19, the trend is likely going to have a lasting impact on education and even become part of the teaching and learning platforms for institutions.
Cyber Talk response
Cybersecurity has been an issue that has had a lot of theories, and as you put it, Nicholas Sanchez, a majority of the public are ignorant about the fact that cyber-crime is a real threat. With simple knowledge and basic care of one’s systems, there is a possibility of reducing the chances of experiencing cyber-attacks. I agree with the fact that everyone is vulnerable to cyber-attacks and little efforts regardless of the simplicity and size of an organization; these attacks can be controlled. What people need to know is that attacks can happen from anybody and if a variety of methods.
