ELECTRICAL PANEL INSTALLATION

Meaning of electrical panel

An electrical panel, referred to as a load center, is defined as a metallic electrical service box that receives power to the home and then dispenses electrical current to several circuits. Opening the panel door, you can access all the fuses and circuit breakers.

Every home or household has an electrical panel of a certain type and size. Electrical systems divide your house into separate circuits, which are all separately controlled. It is responsible for the proficiency of your whole electrical system and the performance, and it can break down and needs repair or being replaced at a certain point. Not having a suitable electrical panel, you cannot have or use electricity at your home.

The voltage from electrical lines to the homes should be evenly circulated through the home. Every home should have electrical wiring, such as gadgets run appliances, among other devices. However, each is prepared with a circuit breaker, which shuts the circuit down if an excess voltage is detected; this prevents damage to other parts of the system or fire risk.

The electrical panel guarantees that the electricity being used at home is efficient, safe, and effective. The panel may look simple, but it is a gatekeeper to the whole electrical system. If the panel is well installed, there is an assurance that the circuits controlling the property and the wiring will function properly and safely.

Installing Electrical Panel

  1. Ensure the installation following the project’s design for the Electric system and low voltage system on the specification.
  2. Comply with local and international standards.
  3. The manufacturer should fabricate all the switchboards.
  4. Before the installation has begun, inspect all the adjoining works where the applicable work is to be positioned. If any condition that will prevent the work’s implementation is found, installation should not continue in that area; the contractor should correct the condition.
  5. All the equipment should be fixed free of the wiring system.
  6. Mount a DB on its own at 1800mm from the floor level to the topmost part of the equipment except when shown otherwise on the schedules or drawings.
  7. Clearance in front of switchgear should be ensured by not less than one meter or as directed/indicated.
  8. You should ensure that the cables, parts, and number terminals should correspond with the maker or manufacturer; they must have certified drawings.
  9. Terminate MICS, SWA PVS, and PVC cables in the enclosure through safeguarding cables to switchboards. It should be done using a gland bracket and enclosure fabricated extension of steel boxes.
  10. DB’s every conductor should terminate behind the board in the adaptable box to have a flush installation. Surface mounting for trunking should be fixed between the ceiling and the board, or the conduit should run straight into trunking, which will stop the correct installation of the Trunking lid. Suitable earth continuity should be done between numerous components.

Conclusion

The electrical panel is the most critical electrical unit at home. Make sure the panel function efficiently so that electricity can be distributed throughout the house efficiently. Circuits can short, thus providing no power through the house, and the panel that is not working well might catch fire. They can produce dangerous levels of current, leading to an electric shock.
