Evolutionary Linguistics
Evolutionary linguistics is a study of a specific language’s history. It includes the study of the language change in the society and how it has been used within the particular community or the nation as a whole. This paper analyzes the importance of evolutional linguistics in a country. Moreover, it explains the rate of linguistics evolution in the world. Indo-European language is a well-known language in Turkey. This paper analyses its history, the way it was formed, and the way it has developed.
Studying linguistics comes with great importance. People need to understand where their language originated. This will help them capitalize on tones and meanings. However, studying linguistics improves communication skills. This ensures excellent communication skills in the society. Besides, it enhances understanding between and hence suitable inter-relation. Evolutionary linguistics also encourages innovation. Bringing in the knowledge of various terms in a language helps students and innovators to conjure new terms and, thus, new ideas (Beekes, 2011).
In the past, America, Europe, the western part, and Asia spoke the same language. That was the Indo-European language. It is not known to have originated more than 8,000years ago. Its origin has not been clearly defined through most researchers who have concluded it to Turkey. The Middle East countries and the European countries have been known to have developed as pioneers in the world; thus, it used a common language to inter-communicate (Lehmann, 2015).
Research also shows that Ukrainians were the earliest speakers of the language. Though in recent years it has experienced different changes and manipulations, Ukrainians were their pioneers. They were mostly traders, and they moved from one place to another trading. They are known to have moved from the Caucasus to Russia and hence to many other parts of Europe. In this way, the language moved further to most European countries. Most countries adopted the language, but others settled with their native language (Lehmann, 2015).
In the early years, Indo-European further spread to India. There is the perceived evidence of a branch of it currently known as Proto-Indo-European language. Their users never developed a writing system for this language; hence its existence is not clearly evident.
Indo-European have further evolved and changed dramatically. Through its movement through countries and continents, it has developed into different languages. Most of them are known to have originated from Indo-European, but most of them are not recorded. Known evolutionary branches of this language include Indo-Iranian, Greek, Italic, Germanic, and American (Lehmann, 2015).
Researchers from various institutions study the Indo-European language. They aim to know how this language helped in the current development of other languages. Past researchers indicated that most of the world’s languages originated from Indo-European. Therefore, to understand the various languages, it is vital to know the origin, development, and the history of the Indo-European language. Innsbruck University, in Australia, is the leading institution in the study of this language. It has developed various theories on the evolution of the language (Meier, 2013).
In Turkey, the use of Indo-European language has been evident. It is used in studies some of the universities. Moreover, the modern Turkish language has traces of Indo-European language. These include some of the words used and the tenses used. However, many scholars in Turkey, including Taylor and Francis, have published a journal, “Turkish Linguists against the West.” This Journal addresses how Indo-European language developed all around the world (Lehmann, 2015).
