Some of the preparations that can be done before the departure include pre-departure training and training during the assignment to achieve an easy repatriation process for the expatriate and spouse /family in five years. The pre-departure training would brief the soon to be expatriate on what to expect when leaving abroad. The training akin be structured to address issues such as integration and family concerns. With the pre-training, the expatriate can develop a clear understanding of the new country’s housing arrangements,   healthcare setting, and cultural differences and values. The training would also address issues such as the expatriate’s partner and children settling in, the children’s education, and the quality of life in the host country (Konopaske, Robie& Ivancevich,2005). Training during the assignment can help the expatriate understand his role. In most cases, employees who are sent abroad without a clear purpose are likely to be unsuccessful. Thus, it will be important that the organization lays out the primary goals of the assignment for the expatriate to meet expectations with ease.

Allowances for the expatriate include will include relocation allowance, home travel allowance, and education allowance. The approach for compensation to be used is the balance sheet approach. This approach has both advantages and disadvantages. The relocation allowance will cover expenses such as flight costs and visa permits involved when moving to the host country. Education allowance will cover the expatriate’s children’s education, and the home travel will include travel costs for the expatriate and his family to visit their loved ones back home. The balanced sheet compensation approach will provide the expatriate with the capacity to maintain their home salary because that equalizes wages of the home country and the host country. The method is beneficial because it ensures equity, and it is easy to communicate (Dowling, Festing, & Engle, 2017).
