Introduction
Healthcare policies play a vital role in generating an action plan that can be used in not only making decisions but also evaluating the desired outcomes such as quality of care and safety of practice (Golubnitschaja and Costigliola, 2014). There are several legislations and measures put forward in New York State envisioned to promote the health and safety of nursing practice. These policies are not only meant to protect the health workers but also those using the services and the public.
Healthcare Legislation and its Impacts
One of the healthcare legislation being considered is an amendment to the Social Service Law, which relates to the violation of the safety conditions in adult care homes. The bill, titled S3460A highlights penalties for violating the safety procedures in adult care homes and operating without a license. Besides, it specifies the reduction in fines, especially in circumstances where the patient is either endangered or harmed. This act will be able to amend the social service law and the mental hygiene law with adherence to safety conditions in adult care facilities (Timmins, 2016). This legislation has a positive impact on my future practice because it sets quality standards for operations of adult-care facilities. It makes to stay focused on my studies to ensure that I achieve the requisite quality standards of practice, get a license to promote quality of care at adult facilities. Similarly, this act has an impact on nurses in my state since it advocates for adherence to safety and quality of practice in adult care homes.
Political Advocacy in Nursing
I have always had the urge to participate in political advocacy in the nursing profession in the future. Political advocacy is essential in advancing the profession and patient care (Timmins, 2016). As such, in the future, I intend to advocate for the profession, patients, and the wider community to promote safety and quality of care in our state.
