Hospitality Restaurant Assignment

Part 1

  1. He spoke about focusing on employees’ ambitions and passions first, then the companies. Do you think that is correct? Why do you think that is or is not an effective way of managing employees?

It is correct that restaurant management should focus on employees’ ambitions and passions first, then the company’s. As stated in the video, employees in the restaurant industry tend to be energetic, engaged, enthusiastic, and productive when their passions and ambitions are prioritized. Companies will inevitably benefit from more engaged and productive employees. It is an effective way of managing employees and ensuring consistency across the restaurant chains because employees’ are engaged and recognized for their efforts.

  1. Do you think it is important to collaborate regardless of someone’s title or position? And why?

Collaboration has been cited as a crucial determinant success factor in the hospitality industry. Collaboration allows individuals in similarly related units to engage and share ideas as well as create resourceful people to join the team. In my view, someone’s title or position should not prevent collaborations. On the contrary, employees in unmatched positions could engage, creating internal dishes and cocktails that attract a huge customer base.

  1. Why do you think it is important to share the spotlight as a manager?

Sharing the spotlight is an opportunity to recognize the efforts and contributions of team members, thus promoting ambitions and passions. Additionally, it provides the basis for internal promotion in an organization. As mentioned in the video, internal promotion should be coated with stories and accomplishments realized by the employee.

  1. Lack of engagement is the key talking point to the first video. What can you do as a manager/owner to ensure not only your staff is engaged, but your guests as well?

As stated in the first video, about 30% of employees are engaged, 50 % are disengaged, while 20% of all employees are actively disengaged. To ensure that staff and guests are engaged, several strategies could be employed. Celebrating and recognizing employees’ achievements promote engagement in organizations. Additionally, frequently talking to individuals about matters of interest to them enhances engagement. Conversely, focusing on collaboration and teamwork fosters engagement among employees as well as guests. Lastly, internal promotions offer a competitive basis for employees’, likely to be assessed on personal engagement efforts and practices.

  1. Why is it important to understand that this is not the restaurant industry, it’s the people industry?
  2. What can you do as a manager to ensure your staff provides the best service and quality?
  3. What can you do to create an environment that invites retention, collaboration, and motivation?
