Problem Statement
Benton is dissatisfied with her career as an Assistant Product Manager at Home Care, Houseworld. She is unhappy due to lack of training and responsibility at the company. She received a poor performance review scores from her supervisor.
Problem Analysis
Several factors underlie Benton’s problems at the company. First, her supervisor, Linton, and associate, Scoville, had prejudicial attitudes towards MBA students from Harvard. The situation exposed Benton to a series of interpersonal relationship problems with the two individuals. Scoville once called her a cocky MBA for expressing her views (Harvard Business School, 1994). Second, Benton’s decision to hold back her character contributed to the reduced performance appraisal ratings. She failed to meet the expectations of her true self.
Recommendations
Benton can take several steps to resolve the problem. First, Benton can talk with Linton and Scoville regarding her feelings. She should tell Scoville to show respect, stop patronizing her, and refrain from condescending attitude. Benton should tell Linton regarding the non-fulfilled promises, sense of indifference, as well as the MBA prejudice. The second option includes the use of an arbitrator. She should share her concerns with Vernon if Scoville and Linton frustrate her. As an arbitrator, Vernon will exert pressure against the duo.
