Management

Samsung is one of the most popular companies worldwide. Making it there required a series of decisions and strategies. Formulating a case study about Samsung, it is judged as follows according to the book, Strategic Management.

The Samsung Company uses various innovation types to stimulate their development. It initially uses radical innovations in 1969 when it decides to transform its production from textile manufacturing to electronics. It exhibits departure from existing practices and technological change. Later in the 2000’s it applies the product innovation strategy when it introduces the Galaxy smartphones to the market. This strategy is made visible through the creation of new product designs.

Moreover, Samsung exhibits its entrepreneurial orientation when they try to introduce the Note 7 to the market to overcome the competition from Apple’s iPhone 7. This feature brings out the company’s competitive aggressiveness as it is meant solely to defeat Apple’s creation. Consequently, it ends up damaging the company’s reputation and losing customers’ trust as their model comes out with major issues. Their proactiveness is visible when they introduce their smartphone.  They identify the future requirements of their customers and act ahead of the competition.

It goes through real options analysis in Corporate Entrepreneurship. Following uncertainty about whether to venture into producing their brands instead of copying others’, the resolve is to invest in their own unique brand of products, which proves to be beneficial. They also come out as poor exit champions when they proceed to produce Note 7 speedily. Not enough questions are asked about its viability, they do not gather enough data, and consequently, its reputation is ruined.

Judging in accordance with the book Strategic Management by Dess, Samsung makes decisions, both good and bad, to improve itself. Still, luckily most of its strategies end up positively impacting its growth, making it among the top ten electronic companies worldwide.
