Explaining the Essay
Globalization has resulted in a change in how multiple activities run in different sectors. In my previous classwork which was a casual essay, I settled on discussing and arguing why online learning, despite being the new trend and highly championed by many people and institutions, it is not the right form of education. This paper is an explanation of why and the steps I undertook before settling on the topic, as well as the process I considered to come up with the sources I employed in supporting my arguments.
The first step that I took in coming up with the topic of the causal essay was engaging in a routine social observation. Undertaking analysis and comparing the current and the old generation, I realized that old individuals that existed before the high-rate growth of technology tend to be different from the current young population. That is, in the past, education was purely a physical aspect; a student had to go to class and receive one-on-one lectures from the instructors. As a result, the old-school learners had the responsibility of developing vital skills like appearing presentable in class, developing high-level eloquence, gaining confidence that enabled them to engage their teachers and fellow learners when learning. The old educational system also allowed learners to participate in developing peaceful coexistence with other people. This comparison exhibited a high difference with the modern young culture that tends to embrace online learning. Many students do not know how to look presentable for different official occasions. Many of them tend to dress in an unpresentable manner because of the lack of tough standards of self-presentation when attending the online classes. This aspect made me conclude that there must be something amiss with the modern digital way of learning. Thus, I embarked on detailed research on why the online form of education is not among the best types of knowledge.
The next step that I took was coming up with the right research sources that would substantiate my claims that online education is not the proper form of learning. Some of the arguments were that it tends to rob learners of various vital skills, knowledge, as well as ethics required in the real world. Since there are a lot of online sources that tend to reflect on my opinion, most of them are personal opinions that have not undergone any scientific analysis. As such, I decided that the best way of ensuring that the arguments raised in the causal essay appear robust was through coming up with three recent peer-reviewed sources.
As a way of ensuring that I was settling on the right, peer-reviewed sources, the topic of “Online Learning is not the Best,” there are multiple features that I considered in the numerous sources that I searched for on multiple online libraries. First, I ensured the sources I went for were recent ones, thus relevant to the topic in question. As such, I went for the research sources that were less than fifteen years old, which meant that they were part of the new era of employing technology in learning on a high basis. The second aspect that I looked for in the various studies that I settled was how the author was related to the two aspects of technology and education. As such, I decided to settle on the articles whose authors were either in the education or technological sector and that they had vast knowledge in the topic under discussion. For example, in the source “Digital Distractions in the Classroom Phase II: Student Classroom Use of Digital Devices for Non-Class Related Purposes by” Bernard R. McCoy, I settled on this work in making my arguments because the author attended the College of Journalism and Mass Communications at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. Also, while coming up with the study, the author had sought the help of a professor of family and medicine at the University of Michigan. The professor played the role of analyzing various surveys in the research. Such aspects were enough affirmation that the studies I was settling for had high-level validity.
Summarily, through actual observation and search on the impacts of online learning on quality of education, in addition to the mentioned aspects that make up highly reliable peer-reviewed studies, I was able to settle for three quality studies. The sources enabled me to give significant reasons why online learning, although efficient to some extent, is not the right option for developing all-rounded leaners that can effectively fit in the outside world. Without a doubt, I believe that the raised arguments will enlighten most of the audiences that revolutionizing conventional learning with digital one will be detrimental to the quality of education.
