Relieving stress is vital in nursing

Week 3 Assignments

Relieving stress is vital in nursing since it can be effective in improving patient outcomes since it reduces irritability, depression, and anxiety. Aromatherapy involves the use of essential oils as which are added to an incense burner and used in massage. The technique has been effective in easing stress and promoting relaxation feelings among patients. Mindfulness is also an effective technique, and it involves learning how to pay attention to the present experiences happening around us. Mindfulness mediation can be effective in healing and improving the immune function of an individual and can be useful in improving the lives of people who experience pain and depression (Winter, 2017). One can be mindful by lying in a comfortable position and allowing the counsellor to lead through a number of exercises that focus on calming the mind and breathwork.

While caring for patients with much stress in their lives, it is vital to manage work-life balance and enjoy other interests besides the job. Individuals can engage in sports or other fulfilling activities to enable the mind to focus on other things. Adopting a positive attitude towards life at large can also be critical in reducing stress since it enables an optimistic state of mind. Taking personal care of self can also be critical in reducing stress, and individuals are advised to engage in healthy habits like regular exercises, adequate sleep, and good nutrition.

For the case of Mrs. Lieberman, reducing stress can be critical in improving her health. The healthcare professionals can integrate the essential strategies by advising her to engage in regular exercises to distract her from her work duties and refresh her mind. The nurse can also educate the client on the importance of practices that can reduce stress, including proper nutrition and adequate sleep. A counsellor can also be vital in helping the client to adopt a positive attitude towards life and obtaining an optimistic state of mind. The use of these strategies can be critical in reducing stress for Ms. Lieberman.
