Central Park Five
Central park five is film documentation that talks about the case of central park jogger. The film covers the interrogations, convictions, trials, vacating the sentences, and the arrests of five men who, by the time of the case they were all teenagers. This case was back in 1989. The teenagers were a combination of blacks and Latin. The truth of the film was not clear of what happened until when the teenagers had spent several years in prison for the crime they didn’t commit.
The case, central park joggers, was generally established on brutal strike, buggery, and rape of Trisha Meili and also what related attacks from a large group of people to 8 other people around the park. She was a female jogger at the central plaza of the city of New York in 1989. By the time Meili was an investment banker, and she was 28 years old. She was severely beaten to an extend she went in a Coma for 12 days. At the hearing of the first three of the accused, in July 1990, the attack on the female jogger was being described as one of the weirdest crimes that were made in public in the era of the 1980s.
The movies provide backdrop interviews, analysis of the experts, and the factual information that is associated with the case, prosecution of the five suspects for the rape case, and also on an accusation of the strike of another male jogger. The movie records the account of four of being pressurized to acknowledge the rape case. Each of them withdrew the confession, and they maintained they are innocent.
There is a presentation from the film shows that the police officers should have also included Matias Reyes, who was attached to the case when it occurred. 2 days earlier, Reyes was found to have committed rape. In 1990, after being declared guilty for being a periodic murderer and a rapist, Reyes decided to confess the crime that was done to the female jogger to another member in prison, and later, he confessed to the authorities. This confession was in 2001. He said that the action was being done by him alone. The investigation that was done in 2002 by the office of DA showed that the analysis of the DNA identified Reyes as the primary contributor of the spermatic fluid that was found in the body of the victim who was raped. Basing on the discoveries and the analysis of the prosecution, the office of DA advocated that the court should remove the convictions of the five men. This was done, and the stage withdrew all the charges that were placed under them. Later in 2003, central park five decided to sue New York City for hostile performance, emotional distress, and racial discrimination.
In conclusion, the five teenagers who were arrested at the central park were charged for being accused of rape. This was based on the confession of the suspect. They were released after serving some years in prison. That was after the DNA had identified the real rapist. The film digs further into the motivation of such horrible choices to pressurize and the consequences of the teenagers. However, any movie that talks about false imprisonment is a tear pining and fills one with anger and compassion. The film is so transparent and in showing that the system of the prison jail those who are seen doing wrong, but they will never console those who are jailed because of their false convictions. From Ken Burn’s movie, it’s clear that whenever there is a horrible crime, society demands that someone needs to pay for it. However, whenever this happens, no one will ever want to be in the wrong place at such time. And from the movie, the suggestion is better not to talk to police officers because what you say will be used against you in a court of law.
