African American Studies
8 Mile is a film directed by Hansen Curtis in the year 2002. The American hip hop musical film has become written by Scott Silver. It addresses a black American by the Name Eminem who had a deep passion for launching his rapping skills in an industry known from time immemorial to be dominated by the Black Americans. The following happens when African Americans and race are no longer the focus in both bringing down the House and 8 Mile films. Firstly, Eminem being so passionate and enthusiastic about his career despite the challenges he undergoes from the family, he leaves the stage so humiliated due to his race. If the idea of the race of Black Americans could have become left out, Eminem would have become showed with praises, and positive comments after the presentation as this would have encouraged him to develop positively in the industry. Music is all about passion and high self-esteem, an artist has. However, when one of these does not become considered, the artist might develop low self-esteem, and this, in turn, affects the carrier. Not focusing on the race and the issue of African Americans would have given the film a more holistic view of not seeing Eminem as an individual of a different race. With this, more artists would have become witnessed joining the hip hop industry throughout the video. In bringing down the house film, we see Steve martin, a tax attorney general who meets Charlene Morton through an online platform. He expects the lady to be a blue-eyed blonde hair attorney. However, this turns different when he realizes the person he has been engaging in an African American whom they were together within the prison. If the tax attorney did not view Charlene as an individual with a different racial background, we could have seen Peter reuniting with his wife, Ivy, and his children. However, re-union did not take place since Charlene jeopardizes the efforts and manages to win big.
Color blindness refers to a remarkable dynamic set of opinions applied in various ways to disprove the existence of inequality (Rodriquez 2006). The ideology advocates viewing and judging individuals based on what they offer or say rather than on racial background. The idea of color blindness has contributed majorly in analyzing the 8 mile and Bringing down the House films. In the two films, segregation has largely come out due to prejudice on a person’s racial background. The color blindness article, the whites should remove embedded racial statements from their artifacts as one might of a different race but may turn out to be having a nobler than earlier anticipated. In the film Bringing down the House, the tax attorney Peterson was not to display a negative attitude towards Charlene since she was an African American. Instead, he would have treated her based on the content of her brain.
Additionally, in the film of 8 Mile, Jimmy would have excelled further if not humiliated by the whites due to his racial background. In both films, the idea of color blindness displays where whites believe they are better than people with African roots. However, the two films contrast as the first one addresses color blindness in the industry of music. In contrast, the second film (bring down the House) addresses segregation by the white people in terms of choosing a marriage partner and one who can share out a noble idea.
