Effects of nature on my career
My dream job is practicing large scale agriculture as a way of earning a living and strengthening the country,s food security. My goals are to engage in crop production, fishery, and livestock keeping. However, I am concerned about the recent trends in nature; This is a result of global warming, which results from an increase in carbon dioxide levels rise through human activities. Agriculture and fishing highly depend on climate.
High carbon dioxide levels affect crop yields as well as fishery. Temperatures also counteract yield increases, temperatures exceeding an optimal crop level will reduce the returns (Schipani). High temperatures are because of the reduction of the nutritional value of most food crops, rising levels of atmospheric carbon dioxide reduce the concentration of essential minerals and proteins in most plant species. Moreover, high temperatures cause premature budding in some food crops. Besides, High temperatures affect the reproduction timing of fish.
Increased precipitation, especially floods, can harm crops and reduce yields, floods destroy agricultural infrastructure. Moreover, increased precipitation aids fast rates of soil erosion, thus affecting the farmland. During long periods of droughts, temperatures result in top dry soils as well as the reduction in water supplies, leaving less water available for irrigation. Drought may threaten feed supplies and pasture for the livestock; moreover, heatwaves affect animals by increasing their vulnerability to diseases, reducing milk production, and reducing their fertility (united states environmental protection agency). Furthermore, there is an increase in the prevalence of parasites because of climate change
Pests and Weed thrive under warm temperatures, increased carbon dioxide levels, and wetter climates. Fighting Weed and pests is expensive. Moreover, Weed competes with crops for water, nutrients, and light.
Therefore I am sure that the success of my future job goes hand in hand with nature.
