REFLECTIVE LETTER
In my script and literacy practices class, I have learned a lot about writing. Before this class, I thought of writing only as fulfilling an assignment requirement. However, this class has taught me that writing is a way of communication that is essential to various aspects of my life. The knowledge of writing that I possess directly influences my status in both my life as a student and my future life. The method of writing I use will determine how effectively I convey information and ideas to others. I have learned that there is no one correct way to write. Instead, there are ways of writing that are acceptable in different situations. The class has taught me to recognize these different genres of writing and the occasions in which they are appropriate. Equipped with a vast knowledge of writing and the development of vital writing skills, I am now confident in my ability to become an expert writer in both my university and in my career.
Being at the end of the semester, I believe that the assignments provide an insight into the need to apply the applicability of literacy practices in contemporary society. For instance, I learned the importance of literacy programs in empowering women, thus articulating the widening gender gaps experienced in society. As a result, I comprehended the different initiatives undertaken by UNESCO in developing a framework to articulate the plight of women. Besides, the assignments helped develop a transformative aspect of literacy programs undertaken to achieve global changes. In that case, I developed a deep insight into the role of women to help society reduce gender gaps. Hence, I have articulated that women play a pivotal role in achieving stipulated societal goals.
Moreover, I have mastered the ability to identify, describe, and analyze different occasions that require the application of literacy practices. My mastery of this objective can be seen in my final essay, which outlined the need to continuously empower women in contemporary society. The insight has helped outline steps that need to be undertaken to achieve gender equity, thus reducing related violence. Through these sections, I was capable of providing clear explanations supported with evidence to satisfy my research statements helped support the role played by literacy practices in addressing gender-related concerns. Therefore, through the research, I was capable of addressing the plight of women relative to the different forms of sex-based oppression that exists within social groups.
Besides, the assignments helped utilize research carried out by different authors to develop new perspectives on the applicability of literacy programs. As such, I was able to outline that literacy programs help improve literacy levels hence empowering feminine. It was clear that women should be allowed to participate in the social, political, and economic arena without discrimination based on gender orientation. Therefore, it was evident that literacy practices should be developed through competency-based programs aimed at empowering women mentally and psychologically. However, the research helped unearth the existence of sex-based violence despite numerous efforts to salvage society against the vice. Lack of civic education posed hindrances to reducing the existing gender gaps, which halts initiatives aimed at achieving equality.
Furthermore, the class has helped articulate the need for developing excellent writing and literacy practice skills. As such, as a writer, I would be in a position to exemplify different scenarios through writing, thus developing the best course of action. As a student, the assignments proved vital in addressing the role of literacy practices in the class context as well as in society. However, I suggest that the literacy practices outlined in class ought to have utilized values, social relationships, and attitudes in exemplifying their role in empowering women. So, literacy practices should not have been defined as observable social behaviors rather than the use of written language in our everyday lives. Hence, I stipulate that literacy practices should utilize a wide range. Also, literacy practices should embark on promoting communication between parties as a means of promoting coexistence between different social groups.
Finally, I postulate that the institution should embrace the learning of literacy practices that utilize multimodality and fluidity in the classroom context. As such, literacy programs should be addressed as a se of skills that every individual undertaking the course must learn. As a result, multi-binary means would be developed to theorize set targets which a learner must achieve before the end of the course. Therefore, literacy practices should be integrated into the curriculum to unearth deeper horizons towards learning through literacies. So, new literacy practices should embark on developing new forms of multimodal social semiotics that incorporates the use of current educational theories. Consequently, new concepts on literacy practices should be developed hence articulating a wide range of problems affecting social groups in society.
