Paying of College Athletes

According to what I know, college athletes are the hardest people in the world. They have not only a strenuous schedule with the specific sport, but also, they are living the life of an average student. As the topic of whether student-athletes should be paid still the most discussed topic in the world. I agree with this idea and have some good arguments to make and experience. I wonder if the organization like national collegiate athletic association (NCAA) are taking advantage of their athletes? The other question I ask myself is whether the NCAA wants the college athletes to have education or to use them to earn a lot of profit as if it is like a business organization? I believe that college athletes should be paid. This is because, when they get paid, they can even focus more on sports development instead of wondering about the financial matter. Furthermore, the first professional job that should be paid accordingly is college athletes.

At present many people argue that college athletes should not be paid because they receive scholarships already (Philips M, 2084). This statement has defended by a lot of people because they state that paying student-athletes is like putting students in an unfair position. However, I would be in the first line to contradict such arguments (Philips M, 2076). Even though student-athletes are on scholarship, this does not satisfy them with everything they need, and they also have to work to earn extra profit. Is working at the same time studying not an unfair position for athletes? College athletes have no time for training or considering since they have to work to earn extra money; this can reduce the quality (Terp G, 235) ‌. I think it can make sense to pay the college athletes so as they can have time and focus in sport instead of wasting a lot of energy and time in work that is not related to their career or talent.

Student-athletes bring a lot of revenue in the college, and this should be considered and make them deserve compensation. In a real sense, people get paid for their professional career, why student-athletes not get paid; they only get a scholarship (Philips M, 2084). I think learning can only help athletes in studying and training and not other things. I imagine if they get an actual salary, how these student-athletes can be motivated to their career and bring the best to their colleges. The most important thing to mention is that college sport is no longer an idea of mere games betwixt students (Philips M, 2084). The NCAA in the present moment, have made it as a huge business, that attracts many people, advertiser, company, and fans. The NCAA makes a flow of big money, which is drawn by the student-athletes (Terp G, 230) ‌. I can’t imagine that NCAA saying that they don’t force students’ athletes to join college (Sanderson AR, 127). And if the athletes were interested in playing sports as a professional career, they could have gone to different places. The NCAA continues saying that instead of athletes going to college, they could oversea to play sport and get paid (Terp G, 230) ‌if they are interested in earning extra money.

In this perspective, I think it is reasonable for the professional to get paid for the efficiency and effort they make and why athletes are not paid, and they help the NCAA to earn a million dollars. Without athletes, they would be no more finance. For example, when I get paid or rewarded with fixed payment after sport (Philips M, 2084), I would see sports as a responsible duty, and that case put my professionalism and great effort. This situation is currently faced across all athletes in the nation. For me as a college athlete I have always been interested in the sports, I feel down when I come to realize how the college make money, and we are the one who brings it, and yet we don’t get paid for no reason (Sanderson AR, 118). I have come to realize how the NCAA takes advantage of us, am not lying or wrong when I say that NCAA is robbing money of college athletes. I think people don’t have an idea of how valuable and worth are athletes. I cannot imagine how NCAA benefits from the performance of athletes, and still, the student-athletes get nothing of value in return. I am asking this question how comes the NCAA sign an  8 year, 8.9 billion dollars with the CBS to broadcast tournament? This is not fair; it is like making a movie, and the athletes are actors who are not paid. The athletes are even prohibited by the NCAA to sell college sports jersey (Sanderson AR, 127). The NCAA has gone further, and come up with the rules stating that student-athletes are not allowed to use the abilities of college for promotion purpose or momentary gain (Philips M, 2084). Still, I ask them what do they expect student-athletes to do when they don’t pay them.

In conclusion, I will say that students’ athletes should be paid; I can even imagine how it is difficult for athletes to entertain the public and fans and get nothing out of this. College athletes are the one who keeps college sport to function because it is the part of irreplaceable in college life. It is a difficult task for young people to become athletes; they should be rewarded for it. Besides, I think NCAA should not be allowed to make money off because by allowing them is like taking hard work and everything students athletes have work for. However, student-athletes should be paid and get rewarded to motivate them, and they will provide the best results.
