The US and Iran Tension

The show brings the decisions of the President of the United States (US) Donald Trump ordering the killing of top Iranian general intelligence commander Suleiman Qasem in Iraq (Deutsche Welle (www.dw.com), 2020). The President made the decisions after the intelligence agencies of the US confirmed more attacks he is planning against US people. The tension was created after the shooting after Iran claimed they are going to retaliate. They did so by bombing US troops in their bases in Iran. President Trump claimed he ordered the killing of the general to prevent war and start the battle. The fight started between the two nations after the US withdrew from the deal of nuclear with Iran in May 2018. He stated that the transaction is defective to its core. He then imposed more sanctions on Iran to drop the atomic project. Such permissions based on business sectors such as oil, aviation, and banking sectors. He furthered the penalties to the financial and travel industry, at this point it when the two countries were it worse.  The Iranian government claimed the US to be the sponsors of terrorism. More sanctions escalated to Iran that led to more threats, events, and mistrust that led to the assassination of the Iranian top military general (“US-Iran tensions: Timeline of events leading to Soleimani killing,” 2020). The role of intelligence on matters concerning the security of state and impeachment of Donald Trump considered in the show.

The host of the show is very creative, whereby he has employed some storytelling devices to convey its theme and purpose. The following are the tools used in the show; The host starts by speaking to the audience. The audiences are available and react to the conversation of the host by laughing or agreeing. They laughed when the host said that the President was assumed to know the Iranian general who, at first, was unable to explain who he is. The flashback also used in that; the host reminds audiences how the current President claimed that the former President started a war with Iran to gain political mileage for re-election. The same is happening now, where President Trump launched a war with Iran amid his impeachment motion. The host use interruptions routines, where he confuses the audience by reminding them about the lady who claimed in the same interview that intelligence agencies are trusted and then not trusted. It added confusion from the previous sentiments. The exposition device also featured against President Trump. He exposed to claiming the tactics used by former President Barrack Obama to achieve re-election and the same tactics he is using now to avoid impeachment. The host uses discovery tools where Trump draws on the weather map claiming that hurricane is going to hit the US by cycling a specific point on the map. It discovered the circle on Iran, which later escalated to slight war and threats (Meyers, 2020).

The information portrayed on the show is very comprehensive and accurate as compared to the one conveyed on the assigned readings. The video show included news of Trump’s knowledge about Qasem Suleiman. In 2015, Trump was not knowledgeable about the general. He claims that the general has claimed many lives of Americans for the past years, yet he didn’t know him well. It creates an impact on the audience of not understanding him, or he doesn’t have evidence of allegations against him. The information of president Trump against former president Barrack Obama of being weak and cannot handle negotiations with Iran, instead call a war for political gain maliciously stated. He is the same guy using the tactic for political mileage. To the audience and the Democrats, it shows, he spread propaganda about other of what he can correctly do. The interviewer in the show stated that the intelligence agencies were not trustworthy when it comes to the investigation of Trump but honest on intelligence services about the attack of the US by Iran. It creates mixed reactions about the intelligence agencies by the politicians or audience. The show also didn’t explain the primary political reasons why he escalated the war. It was for his benefit by diverting attention to his impeachment process. Also, it is very unreasonable to assassinate the military general of another country and claim you are dis-escalating war. The President created a negative impact politically in making diplomatic decisions (Meyers, 2020)
