There are several steps that I could take to persuade the opposing third party to cooperate with us regarding the initiated policy. First, I would try as much as possible to avoid arguing with reasons and instead try to convince with reality or facts. For one to gain a person’s cooperation, it is essential to avoid arguing with the person’s reasons as doing that is attempting to prove that the person is wrong. Arguing with reality or facts is more logic since most people believe that an individual can only convince another party that he or she is right by showing that the other party is wrong. The next step is that I would not try to prove the other person wrong but rather prove myself right. I can accomplish that by asking the person why they disagree with the policy or do not want to collaborate.
I would then take some time and hear out to what the other party has to say. I would make sure that the person knows I listened to their every word by acknowledging their reason or perception as valid. Admitting that the other person’s views are logic does not mean that I agree with them or that they are right. Acknowledging their views implies that I understand where the person is coming from and their opinions. Arguing with the person’s views could result in a conflict. After the acknowledgement, I would go back to reality or facts. Contending with the truth makes the other person less defensive, thus acting more reasonably. Generally, individuals are likely to consider what one says, to the precise extent that the person shows that he or she comprehends the viewpoint.
