The study of the interview describes Geddy Lee’s determination and how the quality pushed him to become one of the greatest Rock artists alive.
Geddy Lee was determined o pursue music from a young age. The first instrument that he ever played was an acoustic guitar, which he purchased from his neighbor. He portrays determination by borrowing a loan from his mother to buy the guitar. He worked off on the weekend with his mother to ensure that the loan was fully repaid. He was determined to acquire the guitar and did everything t have it. In the interview, he tells Dan Ruther, “My neighbor had a guitar with palm leaves on it, and I just had to have it” (Ned Rocks). The statement shows the determination that he had from a young age.
At the age of 12, he went ahead and formed a band where they used to play and grow their talent. He continued to play the guitar until one day; he got the chance to play the bass for Rush, a band that Alex played in. Once he got the opportunity and performed exceptionally on the gig, Geddy was determined to learn the bass guitar. Once again, he borrowed a loan from his mother to purchase the bass guitar. Lee had to repay the loan by working for his mother for some time. His determination made it possible for him to repay the loan and learn the bass guitar within a year. Geddy attained the peak of his commitment when he quit high school to become a rock musician. He made the crucial decision of leaving high school to pursue his dream. He had no assurance that the decision that he made would prove beneficial, but he was determined to make it work. He left Toronto with the band, and they started their career as young Rock artistes.
Passion for music drove the group to start performing gigs on the road to create a fan base for themselves. Geddy Lee performed his heart out since radios were not willing to give them airplay since they were not distinctive in their sound. Through determination, the group developed their own sound, and the member had to learn new instruments to keep their authenticity alive. Geddy Lee was determined to have the group progress, and thus he learned multiple instruments in the process, including the piano.
In 2013, Rush was honored in the Rock Hall of Fame, marking an emotional moment in Lee’s life and career. Despite the existence of the group from 1968, there were not acknowledged as worthy musicians to enter the Rock Hall of Fame. The group did not falter from creating music despite the lack of recognition. Rush continued producing music until in 2013 when they were awarded a place in the Rock Hall of Fame. Determination in music pushed everyone to acknowledge the vital impact that the group had in Canada.
Apart from Music, Geddy portrays determination in his hobbies and activities that he enjoys performing. The musician is an avid supporter and baseball enthusiast and goes to great lengths to attend and collect baseball souvenirs. He owns a vast collection of baseball signed balls, bats, and jerseys. The collection spans from as early as 1961 to date and marks significant events in the world of baseball. Geddy spends a lot of time and effort searching for the collectibles from rare collectors. He also spends substantial amounts on the collectibles portraying the determination that he has for executing his hobbies. Geddy even has gone to the extent of collecting baseballs signed by US presidents as part of his collection despite being Canadian. The collection shows the determination that he has towards collecting the artifacts to form his collection.
Lastly, Geddy Lee talks about a book that he was writing about the history of Bass guitar. The book was a culmination of all his efforts as a bass guitarist and aimed to portray the development of the instrument as well as music. He was determined to finish the book by the end of the year 2018. Luckily, he accomplished the goal, and the book was out by Christmas. The little success shows the great lengths t which determination and hard work has propelled Geddy Lee.
Overall, determination played a fundamental role in the success that Geddy enjoys. His commitment pushed him to work hard and pursue his dreams despite various setbacks. The artiste and his group never gave up when faced with adversity. Rush struggled and was determined to receive recognition of their efforts. Ultimately, the determination paid off when the group was acknowledged in the Rock Hall of Fame.
