Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) Security Rule
Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act security rule establishes the national standards that protect patients’ electronic personal health information that is received, used, and implemented by a secured entity. It requires the right safeguards to ensure there are privacy, security, and electronic health information. The HIPAA security rule contains two sections, which are Health Care Access and Administrative simplification. It is vital to patients as it ensures that all healthcare stakeholders work to ensure that personal health information gets protection. This paper will create a pocket guide that consists of Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act security rule for all workforces at Quality Hospital.
PART ONE
Health Care Access- this section will provide all details of insurance coverage for all employees at Quality Hospital.
- All employees are to have an insurance cover whose contribution will be deducted from their monthly salaries. The dues shall be paid monthly, and the insurance cover shall include all the family members of the employees.
- All employees are expected to carry their HIPPA security pocket guide all the time they report to work at Quality Hospital. It will ensure that the employees can access vital services they need at the hospital without paying anything as long as they submit the pocket guide book.
- The HIPAA security rule, shall be renewed by all employees annually, and they shall cater for the renewal fees. The year ends exact the date when each employee got a job. In case a person losses their job at Quality Hospital, the HIPAA security rule stops to operate.
PART TWO
Administrative Safeguards
- All employees shall have to undergo training on all security measures and insurance policies. The knowledge will help the employees to take care of themselves and the patients visiting the hospital.
- All employees shall undergo a background check to ensure that all the information they have provided to acquire a security rule is correct. The hospital administration shall conduct an impromptu background check.
- All employees shall get a written security policy and procedures that shall outline all the requirements needed and their role in maintaining the security of everybody at Quality Hospital. The employees shall sign on the written policy document provided to show that they agree with the terms and conditions provided.
Physical Safeguards
- All employees are expected to have a security card that will allow them access to various rooms that are not allowed for the public. The employees are expected to carry the security card always while navigating the hospital.
- All employees shall remain in their workstation and only move when they get a replacement. They shall wear all the working devices always for easy identification by other staff and the members of the public.
Technical safeguards
- All employees shall to maintain a high level of integrity by not taking bribes, managing time, and being honest to the visitors and other staff. All employees shall undergo an integrity audit regularly to ensure they maintain high levels of integrity in all their actions
- Only the authorized employees shall use the technical tools, such as computers, and shall only use the tools for official works only. Punishment shall be given to any employees who use the technological tools for other uses other than the stipulated one.
