QUESTIONS
Of the employee benefits mentioned in this case, which do you think are the most important for keeping Kickstarter’s workforce engaged?
The company offers various benefits to its employees to create an environment that is suitable to work and thus ensure maximum production. One significant advantage is the employee paid health benefits that are given to the employees. The health of a human being is not within our control, and this makes it hard to determine the proper time when the health will deteriorate. Therefore the Kickstarter Company gives the employees a chance to get health benefits for protection. This ensures that employees are covered in case of any health problems that arise. Another benefit that seems to keep the employees is the meals and the products they are given straight from the garden on the roof. A well-fed employee is bound to be happy and thus relay it to the performance. It also shows a sense of belonging within the company, and this affects the mental aspect positively.
If you were responsible for the human resource management at a startup company such as Kickstarter, would you recommend a limit on vacation days or unlimited vacation time? Explain.
Yes, I would opt for the limited vacation days. Limited vacation days allows proper planning within the company, and thus ensures that employees are present when needed. Giving the employees limited vacations enable the company to review the performances of the employees thoroughly. This is achieved by getting to understand the accomplishments that each individual provides when they are present and when they are on leave (Osland, 2020). Another aspect is that limited vacation fosters a safe working environment of the employees by avoiding cases such as burnout. Employees are also given a chance to plan for their holidays since they know about it beforehand.
