Global warming
Global warming can be defined as after effect of emission pollutants such as carbon dioxide and greenhouse gases in the atmosphere. Global warming is caused by a collection of gases in the atmosphere and that absorbs reflected sunlight and solar radiation from the earth’s surface hence trapping heat thus increasing planet temperatures beyond the normal range. The main aim of this paper is to explore its effects and various ways of curbing global warming.
According to Nordhaus (2), report released by UN, global warming has now turned into broader term climate change which has led to complex shifts now affecting our planet’s climate systems. It encompasses not only a rise in average temperatures but also some other consequences. Firstly, it led to rising sea levels which is a result of melting glaciers which in turn causes floods which destroys habitats for aquatic species. Global warming has led to outbreaks of allergies, asthma and infectious diseases, new pests and heatwaves, also heavy downpours. These factors interfere with agricultural output and human health. Disruption of habitats could drive many animal species and plants to extinction. Humans are a major cause of climate change. Below are various ways of slowing global warming (Flavin 19).
Encouraging the use of fuel-efficient vehicles such as hybrids and electric vehicles which are environmentally friendly. They release less carbon dioxide in the atmosphere and they save fuel and money. Firms using clean power which has zero-emission in the atmosphere and improving transport systems in the urban centers which lead to less driving. Promote the use of products with less packaging and recyclable ones. Recycling reduces the dumping of waste materials. Not only powering home with renewable energy which is generated from natural sources such as wind and solar that has been accredited by green-e energy but also use of compact fluorescent bulb and less hot water saves 150 pounds of carbon dioxide per year.
In conclusion, the biggest way to make a positive impact on global warming is by educating friends and family via social media and seminars on the importance of making better decisions when choosing the mode of energy to use and also voicing concerns directly to the elected officials. Encourage Congress to come up with laws that regulate the emission of carbon and require polluters to be penalized.
