Going International
Question 1: Comparison between the attitudes towards global business
Global business is one of the very many achievements that an organization attains. As a manager of an organization, it has come to my attention that different attitudes exist within the organization. These attitudes include; polycentric attitude, geocentric attitudes, and ethnocentric attitude.
- Polycentric attitude;
The view that employees believe in their approaches and practices in the host countries is the best (Chng and Pangarkar, 2000). My position in this attitude is that any operations carried out by the foreign managers are always difficult to understand and very different from the way I carry out my operations in the organization. In such a case, I world to let the foreigners figure out their decision in operating the business on their own.
- Geocentric attitude;
The view that is globally oriented, in that its main focus is using the best people and approaches all over the world (Chng and Pangarkar, 2000). My position in this attitude is that regardless of my host country, I will put effort into looking for the best person and approaches in operating activities in my organization.
- Ethnocentric attitude;
A conventional belief that employees and managers have that the best practices and approaches are those that come from the host country (Chng and Pangarkar, 2000). My position in this kind of attitude is that, in my organization, foreign employees do not get to make decisions since I believe they do not have the skills, knowledge, expertise, or experience. Therefore, I do not trust any foreign employee to make decisions in operating the organization.
Question 2: How an organization goes international
For an organization to grow and expand, one must think of going globally. As a manager, it is my responsibility to know ways that the organization will expand and grow by going international. Going globally will mean that I need as many investments as I can for it to be successful. The first thing to do will be building my relationship with large and established companies locally (Driver, 2017). This will help me to get references to reach out to foreign offices. By so, I will get in contact with foreign companies who will be willing to do business with my organization.
Secondly, I will take advantage of the joint ventures that I created with international companies (Driver, 2017). Combining our efforts will enhance the growth of the company by exchanging ideas desires. Apart from getting ideas from these international companies, I will also propose some of my thoughts that might help them grow and benefit from our partnership. Thirdly, I will develop a strong relationship with the local leaders from the country I will be doing business with (Driver, 2017). Getting leaders who understand the ways, language, and cultures of our business is a very important factor that will help be maintaining a global partnership. Lastly, for me to develop my business internationally, I will be required to travel and go personally to that country. It is important to make a meaningful relationship in business if one avails him/herself personally to their partners. This will help me see the business taking action in that country.
Question 3: Segments of the environment for the business
There are relevant segments of the environment for this business that influences the organization while it remains out of control. One of the segments is a political segment. Examples of the political segment are the fact that taxes must be paid for the international business (Barik and Kumar, 2018). The taxation fee may affect the company since some countries tend to tax so many fees. Also, trading policies apply in some countries, thus, hinders the organization from partnering with some countries.
Another segment of the environment that influences the organization is the legal segment (Barik and Kumar, 2018). This type of segment affects the organization in a way that new laws and regulations are developed, which affects the business globally. For instance, a country might set a rule that they cannot make a partnership with a certain country due to a lack of infrastructure. Therefore, it influences an organization while going international.
