Thomas Aquinas
Thomas Aquinas was one of the greatest philosophers and a medieval thinker. He had a brilliant idea when he said that ‘black is beautiful.’ The statement might appear not to have logic, but it sounded shocking in the minds of the pure Americans. African American was exposed to racial segregation which made Thomas launch the campaign in the 1970s. It’s surprising to the Americans of the statement, but they reveal them to sunbathe to make their skin a bit tan. Thomas believes that is a being that has no foundation rather than itself and the rest of reality. God has instilled in man the rational capacities only to comprehend and deal with earthly life.
Many studies have been carried to define the difference between humans and animals. Numerous tests have confirmed that humans are next to animals despite only one factor, which creates the difference. Studies in Australia showed that a man could lite fire the same way a bird can do. Animals do sex frequently, as also man can do. Therefore, a question to what extent is human beings different from the animals. Researchers even went ahead to look at behaviors like speech and also tool making, but animals too do the same. According to Rutherford, the only factor to differentiate the two is the ability of a human to share ideas and have intense social bonding. This brings the concept of ‘only humans,’ meaning that it is the distinctive characteristic.
According to Aquinas, all human goodness is shown by doing acts as per our human nature. The human actions, whether good or bad, are defined by our reasoning. The reason is made of two powers, appetitive one, and the other is cognitive. The natural law builds on the rational nature of human beings to do good and avoid evil.
There are many objections concerning natural law. For instance, people interpret nature in different ways. Different scholars have also brought contradicting ideas about life. For example, the order of nature as Aquinas is not the same as Aristotle.
