In our world today we have people who are transgender. These are individuals whose gender identity does not match the sex assigned at birth. There is no definite reason as to why someone is born transgender.
Transgender people have all the rights like any other human being. They have the right to religion, education, health care, and equal job opportunities. On June 30, 2016, the United States Department of Defense removed the ban that prohibited transgender people from openly serving in the US military (Welsh,2016). Therefore, there should be no discrimination to transgender people when it comes to employment.
Richard comes to know about the transgender state of Sara through George and decides to drop Sara’s application since she is not ‘fit’ for the position in regards to their culture. According to Sara’s resume, her managerial performance at Guffaw’s is excellent, and this shows that she is a performer in her place of work. She has 12 years of experience which means she is qualified for the position as the restaurant requires a minimum of 10 years.
In my thoughts, Richard should have talked to Sara to try and understand her reasons for transitioning from Steve to Sara. After this, he should give her a chance to exercise her skills. Despite being a transgender person, she is a human being who should be given an equal opportunity to employment like the rest of the candidates(Fisher,2017). If she does not perform, then Richard would consider dropping her. Sara is confident that if given a chance, she would deliver accordingly.
In conclusion, we should all be human when dealing with transgender people. They deserve a field to showcase their abilities. Equality and fairness will go a long way in improving their daily lives. We have to appreciate them as our own in society.
