Racism and gender both cause and effect human rights obscureness.
Introduction
Whenever people mention poverty, its associates, racism, and gender emerge as well. There are many causes of poverty in contemporary society, which narrow down to a violation of human rights, on the ground of race or gender. Poverty in the world results from unequal resource distribution, low educational studies, inheritance, overpopulation, epidemics, war, and violence, extreme weather conditions, among others. Racism and gender are interconnected, and they are both cause and effect of human rights obscureness.
Poverty, racism, and gender
Women remain on the frontline of poverty. For ages, most cultures did not value education for girls. Most of these girls ended up married off at young ages and bearing several children from their marriages. In an unfortunate event that the husbands died, some of the husband’s relatives kicked the women and their children off their compound and denied them an inheritance. The women and their offspring had to survive in poverty, and it became ground for inherited poverty. Also, women receive lower salaries for an equal job position with men. This action serves as a reason for, and an effect of the human right violation. Women suffer gender violation, and in counties like Burundi and Rwanda, rape is an order for the day.
Social exclusion also results in poverty. Racism occurs in the marginalization of a particular group of people based on their ethnicity and cultural beliefs. The legitimate representation and the aspirations of the minor tribe’s decline and get overlooked. They suffer inadequate living standards, inequitable resource distribution, the inability to invest, segregation, and stigmatization. African Americans are a perfect example of how racism violates human rights and promotes poverty. In a land of white people, the blacks received hostile and unfair treatment. They were discriminated against and enslaved. They lacked opportunities to learn or own their property. They remained weak as a result of racial discrimination, and it took several years for them to gain redemption in the eyes of their oppressors.
Inequality in employment and law enforcement is a common problem associated with racism. Naturally, a lawbreaker from a minority tribe has no voice, no political powers, and no extreme wealth. They quickly get convicted for the tiniest of all mistakes. In the same way, the minority tribes receive a low-quality education, and it is hard for them to secure lucrative employment opportunities. Scholarship awards benefit kids from well to do families, and the average families maintain their poverty levels. Wealth and affluence relate to the well up families, and poor people take ages to overcome their financial strains. When it comes to housing, the government prioritizes those people with more significant social classes over the minorities. Racial discrimination is a reason for the poor development of certain areas in terms of infrastructure and social amenities. This underdevelopment results in the low economic growth of the race. Also, the employment rates for these people is small, and so is the following standards of living.
There are many ways in which people can eradicate poverty. Compulsory education for all and sundry will ensure that people fight illiteracy. It will encourage innovativeness and inventions of money-bringing ideas. More so, equitable distribution of resources to ensure that everybody gets a piece of the national cake eradicates poverty.
Conclusion
Gender discrimination and racism are the main contributors to the vices relating to poverty. They result in a violation of human rights and hinder equality for some categories of people. Eradicating poverty can only succeed if racism stops, and gender equality gets embraced.
