Organizational weakness and threats

  1. Organizational weakness is an internal factor that might be disadvantageous for the organization because, in comparison to other organizations, it is relatively at a weaker position. On the other hand, organizational threat refers to the trouble that is caused by outside forces. It can be excessive levels of competition or sudden changes that the organization is not prepared to face. For example, common types of weaknesses of an organization can be underpaid employees or an under-developed direction of the management. These weaknesses can certainly lower the overall performance of an organization. The weaknesses might be a cause of organizational failure. Similarly, a common type of threat faced by the modern-day organization is the loss of data or information. Unethical practices within an organization lead to the loss of data and confidential information. As a result, the entire team is likely to suffer because the foundation and practices of an organization depend on its data.
  2. Weakness and threats affect the overall outcome and performance of an organization. Weakness can be managed or modified into strength; however, threats are overly challenging and might destroy the entire reputation of an organization. Weaknesses are associated with organisational activities and have the potential to restrict the normal operations of the firm. It would be vital to consider an effective strategy so that the limits or weaknesses can be converted into strengths. On the other hand, threats have a long-term effect on the organization. For example, unfaithful employees can be threatening to the organization. Despite having efficient resources, clients and infrastructure, a company might fail to deal with this threat. Employees should be an asset to the firm, however, when they behave in accordance to their own interests rather than the interests of the organization, it can severely affect the productivity levels and might be a long-term threat to the firm.
