Bella (2006) Movie
Abstract
The Bella (2006) is a movie that tells a story about how people relate to each other whether they are biologically related or not. The movie revolves around the life of a girl called Nina. Nina used to work at a Mexican restaurant owned by Jose. In two days in a row, Nina arrives late and Manny fires her for coming late to work. Nina tells Manny that she is pregnant and morning sickness delayed her and that is why she was late, however, Manny does not offer her a listening ear. Seeing what happened to her, Jose decided to walk with Nina around the city. Since Jose was a good man, he decided to recommend Nina to work at Manny’s friend restaurant where she was offered a waitress job. Nina reveals to Jose that she was pregnant and wanted to abort. However, Jose advises her not to abort the child and instead she should give out the child for adoption. To understand the plot of this movie, I used induction as a sociological approach of generating a general lesson from the instances of scenes.
Jose’s family is religious and they believe in God. From the scene where Jose’s family are having a dinner, Jose’s young brother gives a thankful prayer to God for providing meal to them in Spanish. He says, “May the One who gave us lives, bless this food”. This incident shows that Jose and his siblings were raised up in a religious background. However, from what Nina is going through, her intentions of abortion, there is a strong evidence that she is suffering from spiritual deficiency. She is ready to abort, and therefore she does not belief that God is the only One who provide life. When Nina asked Jose “Do you think this is all there is”. Jose flashes forward and see himself prying with rosary bead in the waiting area of an abortion clinic. He prays that God with change Nina’s mind from aborting (“An Urban Fairy Tale”, 2020).
After Jose witnessed tragic firing of Nina by his brother many, he decided to offer help to Nina. When Jose came back to the restraint to be pick his wallet, his brother, Manny, is angry at him. He later decides to quit his brother’s restaurant as the head chef. This makes Manny angrier and he hits a wall, since it was this time he needed the help of his brother after Nina was fired. He wanted Jose to help him find a replacement for Nina. Though there was a conflict between Jose and his brother Manny, it was hard to resolve their case. Jose is not biologically related to Jose and therefore feels that Manny did not respect him. However, Jose’s family seems to be understanding and ready resolve the case between these two brothers. Their efforts will be of great significance to keep the family together and love together (“Bella – Plugged In”, 2020).
After several years, Nina visits Jose ad finds him playing with a little girl. The girl was her daughter whom she wanted to abort but after Jose convinced her not to abort, she gave the child to him for adoption. Jose introduces Nina to Bella as her mother. Bella seem to be happy after meeting her mother for the time. Jose did the right choice by introducing the girls to each. Nina is so happy after seeing her child. She gave her a present to show how much she loved Bella as her child. Bella was happy to have her mother close to her. She could have grown without having the care of a mother something, which could affect her life in the future once she becomes a mother (Ebert, 2020).
In conclusion, Bella is a film that reminds us how our actions can easily change lives of other. It gives a tale of hope, faith and the importance of life. Its dominance of love and care for other teaches the viewers that the true values of a good lives. Moreover, the action of Manny firing Nina gives lessons on how people forget about their past once they get rich. Jose’s family adopted Manny though he never cared about that family. Jose’s actions to convince Nina not to abort help people understand that they should always stand with what is right.
