The emphasis on credo is one of the distinctive features that characterized the person and work of Jesus Christ. Credo is a Latin term which is often translated today as “I believe…” The doctrine of Jesus Christ was marked by a set of beliefs that he passed to the people of God. As he transverse the nation of Israel, Jesus demonstrated his beliefs and understanding of the early prophecies, the Law of Moses and other writings of Israel. The Bible says in the book of John 20:30, “Jesus did many other signs in the presence of the disciples,” which indicates that Jesus explained the meaning of the Word of God to his audience. His belief in God and the gospel is shown in John 6:26, where he informs the crowd that “This is the work of God that you believe in him whom he has sent” at the seashore after feeding five thousand people.
Another Jesus’ credo on his teaching is that there is only One God. In John 14:1, he asked his followers to “Let not their hearts be troubled. Believe in God, also believe in me,” which shows he believed in only One God and wanted people to love Him totally. To show that he believed in only One God, he responded, “Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one” (Deut. 6:4), when he was asked about the greatest commandment of all. Jesus believed that people would accept his idea if made he believe that there is only One God. To come to the Father, Jesus urged people to pass through him (John 14:6). Jesus did so in order to make people believe in his work, which was the work of God.
Jesus also wanted people to believe that he was indeed a man, just like his audience. He had two divine standing as both a man and God that he wanted people to acknowledge. His human nature can be seen on many occasions where he humbled himself and voluntarily experienced human limitations, such as being tired and getting hungry. John 4:6 states that Jesus was “wearied as he was from his journey was sitting beside the well,” which indicates that the journey to Samaria had indeed exhausted him.
