Hospitality and external factors
Hospitality has been influenced by the external factors as highlighted in the PESTEL framework. In this framework, the main factors that are found to have a major impact on the concept are the legal and technological concepts. Given the global pandemic of Covid-19, hospitality is one of the areas that has been significantly affected, with this facet experiencing some changes in it. As a result, the external environment has turned out to be more dynamic and complex than ever before. Therefore, the question that will be addressed in this paper is why the external environment is more complex and dynamic today than ever before.
When it comes to the legal aspect, there are some policies that have been put in place to curb the current global pandemic. One of these policies is that places that involve some sort of social gatherings such as hotels and pubs have been closed. The few which are operating are supposed to ensure that there is the maintenance of social distance. With this law in place, hospitality has taken a whole new approach in the sense that there is minimal service provider-customer interaction.
On the other hand, technology is the other element that has greatly affected hospitality. Before the evident increased innovations and inventions, hospitality required that the client directly interacts with the service provider. However, things have changed than they were before and this is because many firms are now providing their services online (Enz, 2010). In the present day, a customer does not have to make enquiries physically. All that such a person needs to do is to contact the service provider online through platforms such as live chats. This trend has been evident even in the manufacturing industry, where clients now place their requests online. Therefore, in order for firms to be relevant in the current generation, it is recommended that they should consider incorporating technology (Pizam, 2010). However, the question is how long will such a form of integration take?
In conclusion, hospitality has taken a whole new approach and this is due to the external factors. For instance, there is a reduction in a one-on-one interaction between transacting parties and this is as influenced by law and technology. I individually learnt that hospitality can utilize technology.
