1. Introduction
In this report I am going to discuss my ideal job, a job description of my ideal job, and three resources which are Monster jobs.com, LinkedIn, and World Health Organization (WHO) which can play an imperative in my job seeking. An ideal job presents someone with an opportunity to engage in fulfilling services while getting better at work.
2. My Ideal Job
My ideal job is to become a nurse. I spent much time deciding whether or not to venture into healthcare. My ultimate decision was to settle for the nursing field. My initial decision, however, was medicine and surgery. With time, I have reconsidered the training period and the effort I would have to put into the career, how much time I would spend at work compared to with my family, and the perspective expectations for medical doctors and surgeons. A deeper look at careers landed me in the nursing field, in which I have chosen to stick. I have excellent interpersonal skills, which will come in handy when interacting with colleagues, doctors, patients, the management, and other stakeholders in the nursing field. Working in a hospital environment is also a thrill I look forward to living through in future.
Nursing education works toward graduating profession-ready individuals (Catalano, 2019). The education and training journey also serve to equip student nurses with such necessary skills and values, including confidence and compassion. To become a nurse, one is required to take up a bachelor’s or associate degree in nursing from approved colleges and universities. Nursing graduates are also required to obtain a practice license by sitting a licensure examination which is offered at the national level. Excelling in classwork and laboratory criteria are crucial prior to graduating from nursing school. Nursing education also presents students with opportunities to experience nursing practice upfront at medical institutions during their attachment and practice programs throughout the training. There are so many employment opportunities for trained nurses owing to the high demand for nurses across the world (Catalano, 2019). Moreover, the evolution of the profession continues to provide job opportunities in home care nursing, hospice care, family nursing, and health organizations in general.
3. Job Description for My Ideal Job
The activities assigned to nurses vary according to their specification;
- Nurses provide hands-on care to patients
- Nursing care entails diagnostic testing, outcome analysis, operations and patient monitoring, and prescribing medicine and treatment approaches (Catalano, 2019)
- Nurses are heavily loaded since the nursing profession demands many adjustments with regards to lifestyle and scheduling (Castner, 2019)
- Nurses stretch beyond their comfort zones to accommodate the patient’s needs
- Clearly, the career requires much determination and sacrifice
One of the changes that are expected in the future is nursing work flexibility. Nurses can work from any location across the globe. This is because of globalization and the fact that every population, big or small, requires nursing services. This is an important aspect since I am adventurous and thus would not like to be limited to where I can live and work. The flexibility of working location comes with flexible nursing (working) hours (Kamrani et al. 2018). The flexibility in working hours allows nurses to hold various employment opportunities in the event there is a need to supplement their income. Nurses can choose to work full-time or part-time. Working on a part-time basis enables nurses to spend quality time with family and friends. Nurses are often free to choose the length of their nursing schedules, either 12 working hours, 8 or even 5 hours per day (Kamrani et al. 2018). Since hospitals and other nursing facilities are required to hire tones of nurses, the practitioners are allowed to choose their workday distribution. Nurses may also be called upon in emergency situations and will be on call on a weekly basis. Some situations demand that nurses work over-time, for which they are compensated. Appendix 1 shows an example of a job description for this job.
4. Resources that Can Help when Seeking a Job
The growing demand for nurses is a clear indication that there are vast employment opportunities for graduate nurses. The diversity of the patient population owing to globalization illustrates increased job opportunities for graduate nurses from minority communities. There exist various platforms that notify nurses of employment opportunities available in varying regions, including Monster Jobs.com. The site enables peoples from diverse professions to search for available employment opportunities, obtain expertise career advice, and remain informed in matters of organizational recruitment (Carmack & Heiss, 2018). I intend to use filters to search for nursing jobs in my location of interest on the platform.
Another useful resource for nursing job opportunities is LinkedIn. The platform notifies users of available opportunities through connections and the following organizations. Designing an impressive LinkedIn profile is also crucial for influencing potential job connects (Chamoso et al., 2019). The platform enables individuals and companies to create profiles and make job applications upon being notified of available job vacancies. LinkedIn users can view all jobs and events in their preferred region, fill in their skills, and attach their qualifications while applying. The site is cost-efficient since it provides for a free package and an affordable premium package. Besides, applicants can search for multiple job opportunities based on their experience, interest, skills, and the industry.
The World Health Organization (WHO) also offers opportunities for nurses and other medical practitioners to work across the world. WHO is an organization geared towards improving global health. The opportunities are available on the organization’s website (https://www.who.int/hrh/nursing_midwifery/internships/en/). Graduate nurses and exemplary nurse leaders are presented with the opportunity to participate in the organization’s goal through international internships as well as jobs. Qualified nurses get to choose their preferred working regions while applying for job opportunities on the website. I intend to sign up for the organization’s newsletter to ensure that I stay afloat with job openings in WHO regions.
5. Conclusion
I am devoted to becoming a reputable nurse. I believe I have the right attitude and values to succeed in the prospective field. With extensive research in the nursing field, I believe that I have acquired all the necessary skills to excel in nursing. I have familiarized myself with various nursing models, approaches, and techniques, assuring that I can provide exemplary care and grow in the otherwise pressure-filled career. My excellent interpersonal skills will be key in interacting with colleagues, the management, and patients, thus providing utmost care.
