American Politics
Question one
A political party is an organized group of people, aimed at acquiring and exercising political power. The 19th century marked the origination and formation of political parties, both in the United States and in Europe. The electoral systems and the parliamentary compositions evolve and develop according to the political parties in question. Political parties are formed to bring people with ideas and interests together. Another reason for political parties is the promotion of voters’ attention, draw up and shape up of party programs, to ensure that there is a political wave in the government.
The United States of America has two major political parties, that is, the Democratic and the Republican parties. Since the two parties are a duopoly, they nearly share all the legislative powers in the country. As much as the two political parties share power, they have considerable differences in ideologies and people. The Democratic Party is liberal in left-wing opinions such as being pro-choice instead of pro-life and a huge federal government. Its voters are ideally from the North-East geographical setting (Graber & Dunaway, 2017).
On the other hand, the Republican Party is pro-life, against the vast federal government and most of its voters are from the South, wealthy families, business tycoons and religious fundamentalists. The ideological differences emanate from a variety of caucuses, for instance, the Progressive Caucus in Democratic Party causes the significant left-wing swing within the party. At the same time, the Blue Dog democrats represent the conservative part of the party. Thus, the ideological differences between the two parties are more significant than the differences in the party in general. More so, the differences in ideologies are what keeps the political flame burning and hence, addressing the needs and interests of the American citizens.
Question two
I agree that the Republican Party is Trump’s party. The GOP Nazification has brought sever issues and debatable discussions that are killing off the views of the unfit. Donald Trump has transformed the Republican Party, making it to resemble the evil monster during the 29th century. Before the genocidal murder of the Jews, termed as the unfit, Nazis took precautionary measures towards the ‘unfit’ individuals. As if Nazism is not enough, trump administration like the closest people in the White house such as Stephen Miller is manipulating the PresidentPresident by working on the genocide to ensure that it becomes a reality no matter what. He has also influenced the President’sPresident’s decision on abandoning the legal standing practices that restrict deporting sick children. That is why, Donald Trump ordered the migrant children who were critically and suffering from cancer, to be deported, without considering whether they will die or not.
Moreover, the immigrants who had run from their countries due to squad hits were authorized to return to their countries, regardless of the circumstances therein. Many of such immigrants were tortured and killed by the hit squads when they returned to their countries. Currently, the administration has authorized the immigration courts to pull down CDC COVID-19 posters, saying it is a move to mitigate the spread of the disease (Graber & Dunaway, 2017). However, this is possibly meant to encourage the spread of the pandemic among these groups of people because they are regarded as unfit. Thus, during President Trump’s presidency, both the nation and the Republican Party have suffered the adverse effects of Nazism and cruelty towards humanity. This has made it a reality that the most vulnerable population during this worldwide pandemic, thus, making the Trump administration more of Nazis in ideological perspective.
Question three
Congress and the White House have smelled the COVID-19 economic Tsunami, and its portend effects to the larger population of Americans. A few days ago, President Donald Trump stated his anxiety towards re-opening businesses and allowing Americans to go back to their normal life. This indicates a shifted focus from the administration; it had earlier reported that it was doing what it can to mitigate the spread and effects of the pandemic that is currently becoming a stalemate in the world. This is a reality that Trump’s presidency is consequential both in terms of the coronavirus death toll effect as well as the likelihood of US to spiral into a recession.
Even though this is an opinion, I think it is irrational for a nation to be in an economic turmoil, during the first months of an election year. Thus, it imposes a serious threat to the political hopes of President Trump, creating more reliable indicators of failure or success of his election bid, other than the economic state. Bad times attracts financial hardships, making them roar and hence, drowning out all the concerns and potentials (Barrios & Hochberg, 2020). Therefore, Trump’s rhetoric has created a conflict with governors, Republicans and Democrats, who seem reluctant to ease their people from the restrictions and directives, which in return, will help the PresidentPresident in deflecting the blame over the turmoil and pain in the country. However, there is a likelihood that some governors and Republicans will side with the PresidentPresident, and thus, this will lead to heated differences between the states that will opt for an extension of lockdown and those who will ease the restrictive measures.
Question four
The COVID-19 pandemic and the response from the US government towards it has changed my political opinions a great deal. This a time when the nation is in turmoil and economically stagnant calls for proper governmental measures to ensure that the citizens are safe and sound. What matters is the steps and measures taken to ensure normalcy and back to roots in a nation. Monday showed some serious presidential tantrums I will never forget, especially during a crisis like this (Barrios & Hochberg, 2020). His insistence on total authority to command the states to re-open businesses and go back to their normal life, amid a pandemic has been a nightmare in my life. This has not only changed my political opinions but has also changed the American citizens’ views as well. The most worrying part is how the government is slowly turning into a Nazism style government, deeming a portion of the population as unfit and unworthy to live (Graber & Dunaway, 2017).
During this pandemic and economic crisis, the media is also shaping the political opinions of most Americans. The media is a powerful tool that can construct or destroy an individual. This pandemic has been aired a lot in different media houses, newspapers and radio stations, something that has helped the typical American citizen to understand more about what the federal government is doing to curb the spread of the pandemic. More so, it has been used as an eye-opener to political views and opinions, thus shaping Americans’ opinions. Even the PresidentPresident moaned about the media’s inability to credit his administration, about the ‘right’ things they have done during the pandemic. His rage at reporters and the misleading campaign video shows his sluggish move towards mitigation of the pandemic.
