Part One: Career Research
When one is choosing a career, one should consider his/her passion or what they love doing so that they will not get tired or bored with their jobs soon. Despite having a passion for that career, one may also consider the financial status and accessibility of the course that they want to pursue. One of mu favourites jobs, since I was young, was becoming a lawyer. I was inspired by the modern life we are living in, where the poor are depressed by the rich and the courtrooms which should give justices are featured by corruption, exploitation, and racism. Being a lawyer, one requires seven years of full-time after completing high school, which involves, four years on undergraduate and three years of law school. Also, most authorities and states need lawyers to attain a Juris Doctor notch in a law institute ascribed by “The American Bar Association” (ABA) (BLS, 2020). Thus, qualifying to be a lawyer academically and legally since one gain the license of being a lawyer.
For the people who are inspired by careers in law, should carefully understand what is expected in them since one may work for private organizations or the public and commercial legal offices. A lawyer is required to advise and defend people. My passion is mainly on trial lawyers who are responsible for protecting their client’s case before courtroom though I would like to specialize in defending human rights. A trial lawyer in human rights just like other lawyers must pass the ethics and bar examinations though one has to decide which test is required by their jurisdictions (Writer, 2020). For instance, according to the United States of America (BLS), for one to get a license in a trial lawyer, must pass Bar examinations such as, Multistate Bar Examination (MBE) which is a six-hour test or Multistate Essay Examination (MEE) which is done for three hours (BLS, 2020). Therefore, after college, one is required to take course in law school, Juris Doctor (J.D), and pass the bar exam. A human rights lawyer may also focus on issues affecting human rights in classes such as international law, civil liberties, public policy, and national security.
Financially, the trial lawyers are well paid in the united states; for instance, according to Payscale.com, human rights lawyers earn around 84,078 dollars, minimum of 59.11 dollars per hour and 157,000 dollars annually. Many trial lawyers, work either for private or public organizations and may decide to work for more than forty hours in a week and may work in any part of the country. In this course, one requires to defend clients with human rights cases concerning human rights. The duties of trial attorneys in human rights include legal study and litigation. In many instances, the lawyers frequently communicate with their customers about their privileges and tasks and aspects of their disputes (Virginia, 2011). Also, trial attorneys mainly on human rights concoct legal papers and block them with agencies or courts. Such lawyers may cooperate with other lawyers and legal experts tangled in a case. In this career, one requires to have excellent skills in communication, critical thinking, understanding and researching. In this file, one may advance her/her career to achieve higher profiles in the criminal justice system and can work in a variety of fields.
Part Two: Choosing a College
Considering various profiles of colleges and universities offering law degrees, I preferred Harvard University, which is the most sophisticated across the world. The college is one of the largest and class public university in the United States. For one to pursue a degree in law, one requires a GPA of 3.97 and above and pass their LSAT examination with over 175 points and above, and also confidence. One can apply through online forms or physical application though it has to be attached with personal statements (Harvard, 2009). Personal statements include reasons why you chose Harvard University and your added skills that make on fill that he/she can make a good lawyer. Therefore, one has to be academically qualified and skilled to secure a chance in the Harvard school Law since it is competitive; thus, one is encouraged to apply to other universities in case her/her application is unsuccessful
The tuition fee for full-time study at Harvard Law School is approximately 67,081 dollars in total and application fee of 85 dollars. The learner’s faculty is ratioed by 7.2.1 and chances to put classroom teachings to work in the institution. The school have numerous labs to practice what one has covered in the classwork. For the students who are not been able to afford the tuition fees, are encouraged to apply for financial assistance from the school. A student may apply for financial assistance programs through online if he/she is an American citizen, if one has filled the “Free Application for Federal Students Aid” and can also apply for non-federal financial assistance. Therefore, one has more chances of performing and gaining more skills in the Harvard university.
