Personal Statement for Forensic Science Program
The controversy of crimes and criminals is what attracts me to criminology. From my point of view, crime relates to something that is consistently impacted by several factors like socio-economics, law, geographical locations, and socialization even though every aspect here is a sophisticated puzzle. Crime is more of a condition and intention.
I had the passion and the greatest desire to work as a crime scene investigator and would like to be a criminalist in the future. More importantly, I am highly interested in crime scene investigation/analysis along with suspect behavior analysis.
Among the areas of concern, I am more interested in is genetic fingerprinting and how it can be used in the identification of criminals in the crime scenes or criminal cases. Hence, I am optimistic in furthering my skills in this area to obtain the opportunity to develop my skills in crime scene investigation. I currently work as a research assistant in the Brain-Computer Interface company, and this I strongly believe will be an added advantage in understanding how criminals may use technology to manipulate their victims.
At the University of UC Riverside, I graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Neuroscience in June 2019. The course shall allow me to obtain a diverse and electric understanding of criminal cases from different perspectives because it concerns the function and development of the nervous systems such as spinal cord, nerve cells, and brain all over the body. For instance, in cases where a criminal gets nervous or display other physical changes that prove he or she is a criminal or not. I also underwent philosophy and ethics training as an extension, and this will help me in identifying and differentiating between various cultures. For instance, polygamy is considered abominable in western culture, unlike in other cultures where it is a custom. This program also enlightened me on various religious beliefs, approach and theories, and their diverse views on crimes.
The study of ethics has practically enabled me to explore ethical implications and moral dilemmas that make individuals commit crimes. This indicates that criminality and law are neither white or black, and I find it interesting.
My experience with the Brain-Computer Interface enabled me to sharpen my skills in information formatting and statistical analysis that shall prove significant when taking the Forensic Science Program as part and parcel of Criminology. Consequently, it provides me with hints on cybercrime which now on the rise in our society today with rapid technological revolution.
I had developed an interest in reading crime plays and novels from a tender age to obtain more knowledge in a veer of legalities of the system of criminal justice, and regularly visited courtrooms to listen to the legal proceedings and hearings. This motivated me to try and comprehend how the system operates, and in the end, I realized my interest in criminology. I believe through the study of Forensic Science to more advanced levels shall allow me to realize the qualifications and skills required for a crime scene investigator and criminalist. I shall have advanced my career ladder to be among the crime scene investigation and or analysis team, helping to bring crime offenders to book upon achieving this.
