social media and pornography
Pornography refers to visual material that depicts erotic behavior intended to cause sexual arousal. Many people watch or engage in pornographic material despite the varied opinions regarding its morality and legality. Some of those who watch pornography claim that it gives them pleasure and helps build stronger relationships with their partners. However, some hold to the opinion that pornography breaches the moral fabric of society. Today, there has been an increase in the availability of pornographic materials, an issue that has raised many concerns over the moral implications it has on society. With the increased use of social media and internet availability, the war on pornography has become more complicated.
Now that pornography caters for the sexual pleasures of individuals, governments must find ways of regulating it without violating the rights of citizens. In many countries, pornography is legal except for a few cases. For instance, in the UK, pornography is prohibited for children under the age of 18 years. Also, materials depicting bestiality, and posting naked pictures of an individual without their consent is illegal. Therefore, it can be concluded that a democratic government cannot prohibit its citizens from watching or publishing pornographic material unless it violates the privacy and peace of other individuals.
