The Module 4 assignment involves addressing both the overall need for managers to understand how to supervise individuals across geographical boundaries as well as the specific skills and considerations necessary to successfully manage across cultures. Review the scenario below. Using the material from Chapter 9 of the text, the supplemental source list below, as well as your own independent research, you will determine how culture might impact management decisions.

 

Scenario:

The manufacturing department at PG Industries (a fictional company) has recently implemented a new training program at their headquarter location in Texas. They now need to roll out the new training across their other global locations, including facilities in the United Kingdom, Saudi Arabia, and Japan. Each of these countries has a unique approach to doing business influenced by their own cultural norms.

Changes in Global workforce aren’t uncommon for companies conducting business internationally

 Recent studies by the Society for Human Resource Management & Economic Intelligence Unit reported the following changes occurring to Global Workforce: demographic, vanishing middle skill jobs, increasing workplace diversity, service jobs will continue to be in high demand, and working remotely will be the new normal.

Finally, traits candidates need to succeed in a Global environment:

Sensitivity to cultural differences, Business knowledge(a solid understanding of products and services), courage to take a stand, bringing out the best in people, integrity, insightful, commitment to success, risk taker, use of feedback, cultural adventurousness, desire for opportunities to learn, open to criticism, desire for feedback, and flexibility.
