The basis of evaluating the quality improvement initiative
The negative aspect of workplaces is interruptions which exist when interacting with coworkers and the rising number of computing experienced daily. In the post-anaesthesia care unit (PACU), the quality improvement initiative is identifying interruptions and proposing strategies for decreasing work interruptions. The purpose of this initiative is to identify the methods that could be used to manage interruptions and improve the nurses’ job satisfaction and effectiveness. The target population if this initiative is the nurses since these interruptions affect the quality of care they provide to the patient. This initiative will improve the quality of patient care, and help teams stay at the track while working and improve the overall efficiency of nurses at the surgical rooms.
An inter-professional collaboration that would be advantageous to the success of the quality improvement initiative is the inclusion of a clinical nurse leader (CNL). A CNL presence with quality improvement and communication skills will exemplify the roles of responsive integration and patient advocacy to improve efficiency.
The cost budget justification is based on the PACU requirements since a large number of supplies and instruments are necessary during procedures. The program also requires a supply chain of delivering, controlling and replenishing the supplies. Equipment for storing and managing those supplies in surgical rooms. A staff support area for the nurses with changing rooms equipped with toilets, showers, changing spaces and hand washing station which would improve proper time management during surgeries and also employee satisfaction.
The basis of evaluating the quality improvement initiative is through testing the adherence of the new practices in PACU after the change and also examining how the revised practices are altering the administration of patient-centred care. Lastly, assessing how the new initiatives are improving time management and reduce interruptions during working hours in PACU.
