Rational emotive behavior therapy

Rational emotive behavior therapy is an approach that assists in identifying irrational beliefs and negative thought patterns that might result in emotional or behavioural issues. Once the problems have been noted, the therapist will assist in developing strategies to have a replacement with more rational thought patterns. In addition, it is a unique kind of therapy since it sometimes uses humour as a therapeutic tool to support an individual to look at things differently. Rational emotive behavior therapy helps clinicians to understand the root cause of an issue so that they can provide necessary solutions to the affected persons. The strategies include:

Problem-solving techniques

This strategy can solve by realizing what triggers a situation or an event that triggers a negative situation or event. The clinicians believe that the beliefs regarding the event that lead to the emotional and behavioural reaction must have a trigger.  This technique also helps the clients to understand the antecedents to their emotional and behavioural wellbeing.  In addition, the clinicians can be able to know how emotion emerge due to cold recognitions that deem a situation to be meaningful. Methods used in problem-solving include social skills, problem-solving skills, and decision-making skills.

Cognitive Restructuring

This involves changing the client’s irrational beliefs. This includes using humour and irony and exposing yourself to something that a person fears. This will help the client to be confident at all times hence believing themselves at all times. The clients get the opportunity to know themselves well and have positive attitudes towards life.

Coping techniques

When a client is unable to change the event and is still struggling even though they are thinking rationally, these techniques can be of assistance. These include; relaxation, meditating, exercise that will be relevant in breathing, hypnosis and relaxation. This helps the clients to relax their minds and focus on positive thinking. Therefore, it is essential in helping people to regain their mental health and go back to their normal lives.

Evaluation

Rational emotive behavior therapy helps individuals to assess their thinking, feelings and actions so that they can experience more healthy emotions and fewer dysfunctions. They help them to figure out the causes and the impacts of negative thinking in their lives. Also, they are able to access help wherever they need and seek help from clinicians. The rational principles will make them be better and achieve their goals without difficulties.

Acceptance

Rational emotive behavior therapy also helps people to accept themselves they are. It provides them with an opportunity to develop a positive attitude towards themselves and people they interact within their environment.  The clinicians seek to help a person see a better future and work towards gaining momentum that will help maintain their lives. Also, this strategy will create an understanding between a person and society. This will guide the individual to understand his or her role in living a healthy lifestyle.
